My knowledge is scant however I know the FB series had a larger bore and pistons which gave them 138 cubic inches over the FC's 132.5 CI. I think there was a slight change to the cam profile but apart from that I am not sure. However anecdotal evidence would state that the longevity of the FB engines was somewhat lesser to that of the FE, FC range. Hope this helps Wayne Title: Re: grey motors Post by: fe350chev on December 21, 2010, 11:09:06 PM the fc is likely to be a more lighter shade of grey due to age lol ;D

i like this article Title: Re: grey motors Post by: EffCee on December 22, 2010, 01:34:09 AM does anyone know the difference between fc and fb grey motors.regards jeff Hi Jeff, FE and FC engines have an "L" prefix for the engine number. The first FE engine number began at L283373. The first FC engine number began at L439507 and concluded at approximately L640000 FB engine numbers began at B1001 and continued through the EK range with a B prefix. EJ engine numbers commenced with J1001 Internally FC engines were of a 3.00" Bore, and displaced 132.5 cubic inches, the FB were a 3.0625 bore (3 and 1/16 inches) and displaced 138 cubic inches. As the grey motor evolved, casting techniques improved. I hope that this has helped answer your question Keith Title: Re: grey motors Post by: feggle on December 24, 2010, 09:56:30 AM Thats great thanks for the info .jeff.
Title: Re: grey motors Post by: GOA350 on December 25, 2010, 09:30:37 AM Also check the size of the welsh plugs and the position of the cast strengthening ribs on the side of the block. Also the FB head has 2 water holes drilled in the top at opposite end for temp sender position and heater pipe. I 'm sure the gurus will confirm this or deny it.

The head certainly has the 2 water ports you speak of. Cheers, Graham |
