Title: 9 v 12 Post by: VAN059 on November 16, 2010, 05:10:15 PM Hi,
Its probably been mentioned before, but regarding intake, can a 12port intake manifold fit a 9port head & visa versa? I take the difference in the manifolds is that the 9port has a completely opened runner, while the 12port is divided (correct me if I'm wrong pls). I think that the 12port may be a high opening, is this correct? I'm looking at some triple Su for a 179 with a YT head, the fellow said they were of a 12port head but also says the runners are opened & not divided. Any help appreciated. Cheers Marc Title: Re: 9 v 12 Post by: brett_f on November 16, 2010, 05:32:52 PM Marc,
Both manifolds and heads are completely different to each other. I believe the complete heads with manifolds are interchangeable but only as complete units. Hope this helps brett Title: Re: 9 v 12 Post by: FC427 on November 16, 2010, 05:41:07 PM It may have been a 9 port made in to a 12 port using Devcon as this was standard practise ...to fit a Blue Black 3.3 head you have to drill new holes in the red block for the water jackets to line up with the later head very easy to do .....FC427.....

Can you use blue motor head gasket to use as a template for the new holes?? :-\ I've got two 186 motors sitting idle in the corner, I like the idea of a better breathing head (here I go again) Mick 8) Title: Re: 9 v 12 Post by: FC427 on November 17, 2010, 09:06:39 PM drill new holes in the red block for the water jackets to line up with the later head very easy to do .....FC427..... Thats the way you do it , I use a transfer punch gets them spot on ...and if your after a bit more compression get a blue black 2.8 head instead of the 3.3 ......FC427....Can you use blue motor head gasket to use as a template for the new holes?? :-\ I've got two 186 motors sitting idle in the corner, I like the idea of a better breathing head (here I go again) Mick 8) |
