Title: Any takers for a repro facia for CD/Radio
Post by: tmudie on February 21, 2003, 01:43:34 AM
Hi all,

I talked with a guy yesterday who some of you know, John Carr. He restores old car radios, does repro facia's for Air Cheif, etc.

We are investigating having a mould made that would repro the facia that cradles a radio below the speaker grill in a FE/FC.

It would be modified to house a standard "modern day" CD/Radio, a standard size rectangular cut out that you can house a metal bracket which you can then slide in and lock into place a stereo unit Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood, whatever.

Depending on the number of takers the price could be anywhere from no so cheap to somewhat expensive, but it would be a very high quality job as John has a good reputation, and feedback on hid Air Cheif facias has been very positive. Like I say, price depends on number of takers, but if we can get a commit for 20-30 I would say we could keep it down around the $100 mark or so.

I want 2, so how many more would be interested?

Thanks

Tony

fibreglass with high quality finish. the current mould has two pieces to build a composite single piece with the strength and inbuilt spacers at the rear for the radio dials

we're not sure yet how much of the current mould can be modified/utilised to adapt. the original mould cost $600 to make some years ago, so thats why the cost will be lower the more we can order.

I've had feedback that the current facias are excellent quality and extremely strong. the old radios are much heavier than modern units

I have been trying to work out how to get a decent sound system in "Hilda" without destroying the original look. This sounds like the answer.

I'll take one.
