Title: Re: Video- Australian Road Safety Council - using your hand signals- FE Post by: KFH on August 09, 2010, 10:15:20 PM Hand outside and then point to left over the roof. Some of the older drivers in our vintage car club still do it that way. I only use the stop and right hand signals in my vintage.

At least that was what I was told, I'm not old enough to have lived it. the only signals I usually see now are the "I'm not happy" signal. :D CHeers Ed Title: Re: Video- Australian Road Safety Council - using your hand signals- FE Post by: DN2168 on August 10, 2010, 08:12:01 PM ED, is that the same as the "look up at that birdy" signal ;D

That is/was the rule for NSW: The arm-out, hand facing up is the signal for both "Stop" or "Slowing (to turn left)". Maybe the signals were different in other states? Dunno. This meant that if there was a car coming out of a side street on your right you had to give way to it , no matter what >:( Can you imagine dealing with that on the Hume Highway today ??? I learned to drive just as this was changed, I can't tell you how stessful it was. Thankfully we followed the Canberra (UK) example of "major and minor roads" hence the Give Way signs we see today :P Cheers John Title: Re: Video- Australian Road Safety Council - using your hand signals- FE Post by: Ed on September 10, 2010, 08:48:13 AM What you may not remember is the NSW "give way to the vehicle on your right rule".
