Title: approximate date of manufacture from the chassis, instead of motor? Post by: Ute-opia on June 15, 2010, 09:01:25 PM ...i have an FC ute but it has a 'B' prefix on the engine, so i assume it's out of an FB EK, but can i do the same sort of matching of approximate dates with the chassis number?

Post by: mcl1959 on June 15, 2010, 10:05:19 PM Chassis numbering can be used to date the early cars up to 1959 since up to 1959 all car's chassis numbers started with the year of manufacture followed by a sequential number. However in 1958 GMH realised that they would have the potential for 2 cars to have the same chassis number - Since 1959 all cars then had the model prefix as the start of the chassis number. I can date all FE and FC vehicles using my database as a comparison to known dated cars.
