Title: Aluminium radiators
Post by: pedro on May 12, 2010, 09:34:12 AM
Has anyone bought one of those aluminium radiators off e-bay, $198 brand new sounds too good to be true when the local radiator shop wants $450 for a normal one, I'm  a bit suss on what the quality is going to be like.

The local parts chain store (Sprints) was advertising Commodore Radiators the other week for around $150 so it looks like the local radiator shop may be profiteering. The only downside with an ebay purchase is warranty claims  :-\

Thanks Stinky,  I definately won't be going back to the local radiator place then they are almost double the price, might have to do a bit more research on the cheapest place to buy one, only problem is we only have supercheap, repco and autopro here in the bay.

I know the owners at the Autopro in Clovercrest (SA) and have dealt with them for years even though there is probably 20 different auto parts stores between me and them. I guess it depends on how seriously the locals guys take their franchise.

$340 at auto pro, that's the best price I've found so far(apart from the e-bay ones)checked a few other places on the net and none of them come close.

What i did Pedro is go to a radiator place and ask if they have replaced an VT radiators lately, as its the plastic tanks that flog out and not the core. I picked up a really good condition core for free that had been cleaned, made up some tanks myself and then had them welded onto the core. Jobs was right custom radiator made for $250.

Cheers
Jb

Thanks guys, Scott, unfortunately the later radiators have the outlet and transmission lines in the wrong spot, JB, as far as going to the local radiator shop for anything after he quoted me $450 for a new one there's no way I'd go back there for anything.

Pete, sounds good to me, I presume it's in good nick or you wouldn't have made the offer, being a V8 one should help with cooling too seeing as though I can't run a fan on the engine, could you please PM me the postage costs and your address and I'll send you the cash, a money order or do a direct deposit, whichever you prefer.
