Title: Grey Motor Cooling Fan
Post by: Old_Mt_Isa_Boy on April 28, 2010, 07:40:49 PM
Does anyone know how much air the standard fan produces on a grey motor either in CFM or LITRES/SEC. Looking at using an electric fan but want to be sure I use the correct size.

Regards

Wayne

I always fit the biggest possible thermo fan to my cars cause the more air you can flow through the radiator the better it cools and I also use the actual thermatic switch you can buy for them as well and also religiously fit thermostats to them to get to operating temperature as early as possible and stay constant therefore extending engine life. One little trick though is to keep the original fan in the boot on big long trips away cause if the electric fails you can get out of strife as I found out the hard way on a big trip.
Cheers Jason

Jason, when the fan failed, did you find the car got hot when you were doing highway speeds or just around town ?

just around town but I now carry a spare fixed fan for just in case or the other option is to run  both types with an electric on the front and fixed in normal spot or twin electrics with one either side wired together so if one fails the other will do the job till you get a replacement but good quality electric ones hardly ever fail I was just unlucky. I have a VT commodore with 280 000 kays and never changed fan. Davies craig make a great item and have a good warranty as well.
