Title: What Oil For a Modified Red? Post by: Ol_Girl_58 on April 27, 2010, 03:29:15 PM Hi all,
I'm confused re: what type of oil to use on my new, not yet run in, red motor. Questions are as follows: I have been recommended Joe Gibbs 'Hot Rod Oil', which is available in 10W30 and 15W50. Why would I choose one over the other? I understand that the 10W30 is a common multi-grade oil that is fairly thin and flows easier than the 15W50 would. So why would I need 15W50? Should I use a 'run in' oil, or is it unnecessary to do so? Thanks in advance, Ol_Girl_58 Title: Re: What Oil For a Modified Red? http://www.castroledge.com.au/product/product_25w50.php Anything lighter (10W/30!!!) isn't suitable. Has it had the cam bedded in before you got it? Title: Re: What Oil For a Modified Red? Title: Re: What Oil For a Modified Red? Post by: FC427 on April 28, 2010, 06:15:36 PM Thanks for the advice. Do I need to use a run in oil? Just use an oil that is not friction modified as it can stop the rings from bedding in ......FC427....... |
