Title: Bucket seat recommendations.
Post by: rusty58 on March 29, 2010, 09:00:37 PM
I am thinking of fitting buckets to the ute (it has no seat atm) and was wondering which ones you would recommend?

The commodore seats will sit too high unless you modify the floor. Go to the wreckers and have a look at a few buckets out of smaller cars such as hyundai and daewoo. Camira seats are very comfortable but not too sure how they would fit. You will need buckets with a shallow profile because of the hump across the floor. Others may have more info . Cheers Jack

I currently have Nissan EXA buckets seats in my FC and I reckon they're a good fit - they are supportive and the seat shoulder sits just below the window line.

In saying that though, I have a pair of Austin A40 seats that I am wanting to put in. They look like a split version of an FC bench, so there's room for a floor shift. Best of all, they're leather.  8)

I've got a set of Datsun 240K two door buckets.  Fit in very well, lots of space between for a console, third seat, whatever.

have just fitted honda seats to my car and now have to refit them as they sit too high the seat adjuster mechanism hit the hump in the floor but if i swap the seats right to left and left to right the seat slide adjusters will sit over the low outside part of floor alowing seats to sit almost 75 mm lower

If your car has to be certified by an engineer your seats will have to meet the current A.D.R. IE, head rest's so that would rule out HR, EH, HK etc.

Just something I threw together earlier...  ;D ;D

May need an engineers approval..  8)

Probably a bit more work than I was planning...
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'll keep them in mind whilst I am out hunting.

trawling through old bucket seat threads.

Is there any current consensus on a magic fit bucket that fits FEFCs really well, is in plentiful supply and can be retrimmed to not look too far out of place in a 50s car.

Getting sick of rolling around on/in (collapsed now) the stock bench in my wagon.

Don't know what State of Oz your in ,but Pickapart in Melb here you have heaps to choose from, early Com,early holden even gemini, try fitting seats with little or no plastic,i think they look shit tmo,i go to alot of car events and seeing shitty plastic s/columbs and seats in older cars pisses me off,Why because there to fucking lazy to hunt for period correct stuff,i know the engineering side of it iznt easy but use a bit of imagination ,that's my lesson for today, hope it helps buddy. 8)

My mate and I fitted '66 Corvette Stingray buckets into my FC on Monday. What a heap of stuffing around. Looks cool though  8)

Never seen or tried, but I think early Commodore buckets with the headrests removed would do the job.

I've got a dark blue pair out of a Holden Astra (around 2005) I bought for my FC Ute you can have. They will fit fine. not too big. and still comfortable.

I decided to stick with the bench seat.

It'll make some more room in the garage.  Send me a PM, I'm in Melbourne South East suburb if you're interested.
