Title: handbrake cable
Post by: smithy on March 20, 2010, 05:10:38 PM
hi guys, im urgently chasing a photo or photos of a handbrake setup ( original) where it joins the front cable to the rear section. would be super extra bonus if you have a CRS chassis kit.
just need to see how it all mounts and joins....

many thanks
dean

What gearbox are you running, it will make a diference with the gearbox mount. I have a 5 speed behind a red motor on one of ours with chassis kit and had all sorts of trouble getting the right fulcrum point to make the handbrake work correctly. I will post some pics tomorrow when I can.

weddo, spot on mate thank you. picture is perfect and shows me exactly what i needed

just one question the bar which runs through the CRS gearbox mount to connect the front and rear cables, where did this come from or did you make it up.

cheers

That is very close to the original setup Dean, do you still have yours, maybe you could drill out the spot welds then use the standard bits and knock up a bracket to suit that you could attach to your crs crossmember.

hey pedro, dont have my original one.
weddos looks sort of beefier than original, got some 2.5 mm flat bar lying around but this may be too thin.
will wait to hear from weddo hopefully if not may have to do a wreckers run during the week.
got the diff guy coming tomorrow to chack on handbrake cable length, but at least now i can sort of mock things up.

time is running fine :-\

Dean,
I have a copy of the EK Auto type, the 2.5mm flat bar will be fine to fabricate it from, then make the cables to suit. I am working tomorrow evening, I am home until about 2:00pm. Can lend it to you to copy if you like

Dean, I made the 50mm SHS gear box mount myself and originally placed the handbrake cable bracket at the bottom where the small section of 50 x 25 rhs is visible, but it did not work properly. I then welded a 6mm flat plate at the top of the mount and moved the bracket up, but had to run the cable around either side of the 50mm shs which provide a better line for the cable. The front cable was made to suit.

Sound like you have it sorted, well done
