Anyone out there ever air cond a FC with a red motor?  Just trying to find what compressor would be suitable and I imagine a compact underdash unit..

If you are keen (read handy with a spanner) there have been plenty of holdens with red sixes fitted with air-con.  There was a range of bracketry to suit mounting on both sides of the motor. Brackets and parts shouldn't be too much of a problem to buy at a wrecker, just a matter of selecting a model that suits your needs and/or fits under the dash.

These days you could probably pickup a car for wrecking fairly cheap, grab the air-con gear, then sell off the rest.

There was some discussion about this recently on the EH Holden chat page. I think you need to become a member bfore you can look at the messages. The thread starts at message number 2617.

The guy there used a compressor, heat exchanger etc  from a VH commodore (VC and VH compressors are better than earlier ones apparently). It didn't sound too complex until you get under the dash. In his EH he retained the original warmaride heater and plumbed the airconditioning into it so he could use the original vents, slide controls etc. Sounded pretty neat.

Hope this helps.

Dave
Which EH site was the chat page on? I have tried Q'Lands but can't find any other chat pages in other states.
Thanks

John,

I think it is a national one. If you go to the links section of the Victorian EH club you can get to it by clicking on the 'EH Holden Chat' link.

Hi,

Bevan from the WA club has installed one.  His car (he's had it 28 yrs since a teenager) has a 202 with Trimatic.  I've not got all the details, but intend to do a newsletter article on it in the near future.....

I'll drop him an email and find out how he did it.....

cheers.....Brad

Hi Brad,

Thanks for bringing this thread back. I had a look at the Vintage Air website and found they make what looks to be a good heater replacement for FE/FC. They also have an Australian distributor:

T C R CARPONENTS
Tel: 0397203006
FACTORY 5 21 BURGESS ROAD
BAYSWATER MELBOURNE  3153
Fax: 0397299816

US Price for heater is $150.00, $199.00 with demister kit.

May be worth chasing up by guys who need heating of front window to get engineer certification.

Cheers,

Craig.
