Title: Windscreen sealant Post by: MAD304 on February 17, 2010, 12:57:33 PM Hey Guys,
The windscreen rubbers in the FE are new but were installed with too much sealant. Cleaning the glass is easy enough but the rubbers are a different issue. Does anyone have experience with the sealant removal and if so what was the best solution ? I was thinking of soaking them in a bucket of what ever dissolves/softens up the sealant making it easier to remove but I fear most products would dry out the rubbers :-\ Cheers, Azz. Try some wax & grease remover, we use it in the panel trade and it will not affect paintwork - and you can by it from any supacheap auto or any auto shop. also good for removing tar & bugs. Or as Colt said metho will do the same job either way you will need a few rags and some elbow grease. Just a piece of advice for all those reading out there, my old man has been a pin striper/sign maker for 35 years, using prepsol the whole time. WEAR GLOVES ;) , his hands are buggered. Cheers, Azz. All the goop comes off really nice but the front screen rubber is now 4" longer at the bottom corners.....fingers crossed it will shrink back when the prepsol evaporates out ::) Cheers, Azz. Title: Re: Windscreen sealant Post by: FC427 on February 19, 2010, 12:08:50 AM It will shrink back ;D I have soaked them in kero and they have swelled I then fitted it to an old screen and two days later it's back in shape ......FC427...

Did you have to put the chrome strips in around your windscreen??? Nick Title: Re: Windscreen sealant Post by: MAD304 on February 21, 2010, 10:21:32 PM Gday Nick, I do but I'm not at the fit up stage yet....... just cleaning and getting things ready.
I have tried to fit the stainless to the rear rubber without much success but if I can get half an hour without any distractions (the kids) I reckon it'll come together ok ;) Cheers, Azz. |
