Title: installing rear window and trim
Post by: snuff69 on November 21, 2009, 02:54:02 PM
Hi all I am getting my front and rear screans ready to install. When I got the rear rubber out of the packet I found something that I did'nt think about, my FE is an early model with the small s/s trim around the back window held in by small clips. The rubber is made for the later and FC trim. Anybody encounted this before or have any way around it. I would like to keep the small trim as A. I want to keep it original and B. I don't have the other trim.  Any advice most welcome. My car was painted this morning I'll have to put up some photos this week.    Thanks Dave

There is a wide trim and free screen in the for-sale section :D

Dave this is a really tricky problem and I don't think there is an easy answer.
The thin trim rubber was a special mould and neither the standard rubber or the special rubber is really suited to the application. My thoughts were that it should be possible to find a rubber section for the FJ model which also had a thin trim. Purchase a long length and then make your own screen rubber by gluing the ends together.

thanks Ken It does seem to be a tricky one. I thought I may be able to make up some kind of metal clip that I could sikaflex into the groove in the rubber and then use the original clips and trim?  Dave

Hey Ken the headlining and front and rear screens are going in this week.If we put the rear screen in without any trim would we be able to install the trim later (if I have to get a large trim)   Thanks Dave

No - trim MUST go in with screen
