Title: 5th gear ratio of Celica 'box
Post by: EJ_Dave on January 21, 2003, 01:46:18 PM
Does anyone know what the 5th gear ratio is in a celica 5 speed gearbox. Just trying to work out what diff ratio might work best in combination.

Thought top gear was 1:1.
Could be wrong though :P

G'Day EJ Dave
You could run low gears such as 4.11 or the standard 3.8?? this would give you blistering off the line speed and the overdive 5th gear would tame it all down for highway cruising. I am pretty sure this has been covered before as to diff ratio's with o'drive boxs. Try the search engine on this site and look for diff ratio etc.
Good Luck

Ps What motor is in front of the 5 speed?

Thanks guys.

As you may have guessed I have an EJ (wagon). The motor is a fairly standard 138 grey motor. Only mods are extractors and 2 inch exhuast. I have just acquired a 3.55 diff centre which by my calculations gives almost spot on 20mph per 1000rpm in top (1:1) gear (3 spd crash box) so 3000rpm at 60mph. If top gear in a celica box is 0.89:1 that would drop the revs at 60mph to just under 2700 so that would work pretty well.
