Great find, it looks as though it has had a Tilly's three tone kit fitted at some stage.

Scotts correct, a Victoria single or twin line by the look of it, HAMFIST, ask the wrecker if he knows where the stripe kit is, front seat looks pretty good, bit of elbow grease.

Good luck with it

From what I can see the body doesn't look too bad, most of the important stuff seems to be there, having no wheels makes it look worse than it really is, welcome aboard.

cheers for the comments but id like to know more about the stripe or whatever it is you guys are talking about bare in mind iam new to the FE-FC scene

Title: Re: my new project
Post by: mcl1959 on October 19, 2009, 08:49:16 PM
It was a Victoria twinline kit - you can tell it is a twinline because of the small piece behind the rear door on the rear quarter. The single line didn't have this. The downside is the body has about 100 holes in it now where the stripes were and the kit is almost impossible to find. I know of less than 10 cars existing with this stripe kit.
Did I mention my car is one of the 10 ;D

does you have a pics of this strip on a nice FE so i know what it looked like please.

Title: Re: my new project
Post by: GOA350 on October 20, 2009, 09:30:30 AM
It is the twin line kit as Ken describes and when being fitted you could either fit the twin lines or a single line which in your case it looks as if they may have gone for the latter.

This car is also exactly the same as the FE my Dad had when he was 18. It started as a 3 tone, light green bonet gaurds and doors, darker green roof and white boot. My Grand father bought it new and had this done, the Dad got hold of it and it was repainted all one color. British racing green.
Sadly this car is now somewhere at the bottom of the Clayton tip (Victoria). I might be able to russle up a photo of before and after if i pester the old man.

Cheers Scott

Here are a couple Hamfist, it gives you lots of options with the paint

(http://s1.postimage.org/63OhS.jpg) ($2)

(http://s1.postimage.org/63Th9.jpg) ($2)

You could easily recreate the strip/s with stick on chrome protecta strips and you have the holes as a guide

ID tag reads

FE-225-37778-A

trim 266-707

paint 253-7475

RPO 253-7446 TOP

if someone could tell me what all this means and what RPO stands for.

Title: Re: my new project
Post by: mcl1959 on October 20, 2009, 09:19:23 PM
Your car is an FE special sedan (225), and is the 37,778th made at the Adelaide (A) plant.
The trim is Peacock Green & Dolphin Green (226-707) - note your plate should say 226 not 266
The bottom paint colour is Shannon Green (253-7475)
The top paint colour is Biscay Green (253-7446)
RPO stands for Regular Production Options - in the case of the Fe special, 2 tone paint was available as an option at no extra cost.
Later the RPO was dropped as 2 tone paint became standard procedure.

You should also find a chassis number near where the washer bottle is.

Regards Ken

Good luck with it.

What are your plans for it?

An empty shed to begin a project with... WOW

You have a lot of room in that shed, just what you will need when you get into it!

Good luck with it and keep us posted of your progess :)

well guys ive just spend some more money on tyres i got kuhomos or something like that and they have white walls on them and i bought a car battery and some terminal clamps cos my goal is to get it running and possibly drivable b4 the resto to get an idea on what needs doing ive got high hopes for the motor and iam planing on trying to get it to turn over tonight so fingers crossed!! but because of the heat i havent been going to tailem bend to do any work on the car till night time cos evan at night the shed temp doesnt get lower than about 25 degress and of course i dont live in tailem bend so its an hours drive to get up there to do work on it so work might go abit slower than id like but it will get there!!

Somewhere there is someone cursing that they didn't get 2 little pieces of flash trim.

But what good luck on your part to get a matching rear seat.

Keep the updates coming - it will be interesting to see what else you find and how it all goes along.

Holy Spacious Shed Batman.    Thats some great progress you're making. Are you planning a full rebuild before christmas?  :P

Shame those newly painted rims and white walls are getting so dirty. lol.

P.S.   Looks like that new clean shed is quickly becoming used.

P.P.S.   There is no real reason to to have a PS on a computer where you can go back up to previous lines and add in additional text.

I like the idea of the pipes, however they are illegal if you are going to keep them for rego... has to be a cetain distance from the rear welded seam and not allowed to be on the pavement side of the street...

For mine i like the side look as wekk but am going to use a dummy set for rego...

i know side pipes are illegal but in the short term thats what its getting as at the time i only had enough good exhaust to get to the end of the muffler and b4 it gets rego ill go get the last section  :D

What sections do you need?  I have the inner & outer legs which attach to the chassis under the front floor up to where they join together and I have the front sections where the bumper bar bolts on, plus the tie member that joins these 2 pieces together.

Hamfist.

Re my previous comment I know a guy in Adelaide, who's named Greg Newbury, and I think a previous post said you lived approx 1hr away from the car, where you shed is in, Tailem Bend, so Adelaide was an obvious location.

Looks like you're making great progess.  Wish I had the time and funds to commit to my car like you have done, except the wife keeps sending  my 2yr old apprentice out to help but somehow that jsut seems to slow if not stop my work. Keep up the good work and keep all the posts coming.  Do me a favour and take those Ford flags down in the background before they start making your shed rust. lol.

What material are you using for your rust replacement panel repairs. IE Thickness, and if I was to walk in off the street what do I need to ask for.  Last time i went to the local steel barn they asked me all sorts of questions I did not know the answer too so I walked out again. lol

You need to purchase a repro floor pan which is pressed up to the right shape. Using a piece of flat steel will end up as a very poor result.

BIG DECISION TIME!!! most people on here wont like it but its time for one to go and the one that is to go is the FE sorry guys but shes to much for me at the moment as i have 4 cars and only one of them is going at the moment and its the fairlane i don't have the money or time to fix them all and i really don't want to sell the EH because its in such good condition iam not selling the fairlane and my daliy is broken and needs more money spent on it to get it back on the road and then iam restoring an XC coupe for another bloke so its chewing up all my time and the shed is very full and its very hard to work on anything so ive decided and been thinking about this for about 4weeks the FE must go so b4 i chuck it on fleebay i thort id give one of you guys a chance to buy her and fix it up but do remember i did drive it so the motor gearbox and diff are in all good order and it is complete but it wont be going with the white wall wheels but i will put some wheels on it so it can be moved iam hoping to get $1500-$2000 but if you think thats to much then make me an offer but i will NOT accept anything under $1200 as its actually cost me a fare bit so far. and its got AMZING!!! condition front guards that have never been fixed and are almost rust free the doors are very good chrome near perfect and i personally think worth every peny so there you go.

Don't do it.  We all enjoyed your pics and story so far.

At the very least, just park it in the corner until you have the funds and time again.

Even if you sell it, $1200 - $1500 won't go that far, and you know you won't get a replacement in the same condition.

I too, have been watching this thread with keen interest and it would be a shame to sell now. At the very least have a think over a couple of weeks and perhaps things may change. However as many have said at other times if you have to sell, then so be it. Decisions have to be made.

Good luck.

Ditto the above comments. When I first saw the photos of the car in the wrecking yard I thought what a job you had in front of you, then in no time flat, you had it up on wheels and progress was beng made. I followed your progress with interest, which helped keep me motivated on my car. I do hope that you reconsider the sale and do finish the car.

Best of luck with your decision, whichever way you go I know you will have some hard choices to make

i knew when i wrote that i would upset a few but as you guys have said hard decisions have to be made i really didnt want to and ive have been trying to talk myself out of it alot and but my current circumstance i just can't keep them all :-[ it lost and only because the fairlane is regoed and a goer and currently my only means of transport and the EH has FAR less rust almost none anywhere and the shed is full and theres no more space not evan to work on any of the cars witch has to happen if iam to earn money

As all the guys above said. I too have been in awe with the progress that you have made on the FE and followed it with much interest. It is a shame that you have to get rid of the FE, but I gather it wasnt a decision that was made lightly.
Best of luck with the EH resto.

Hamfist.  I know where you're at.  I went through a similar thought process not to long ago as it looks like im moving interstate this year, and Cairns is a long way from anywhere to move from.  Luckily my financial advisor was quick to point out it would be best to get it rolling again and ready for transport and ship it home rather than find another dry clean example and start again.

I knew I married her for more than her good looks.

Sorry to hear the news as you thread has given me the incentive to attack things I would normally ponder over with out any real progression.

It may not be an FE/FC but knowing your dedication and passion I for one would still be keen to see any progress on the EH posted, even if in another thread.

dont do it, but, sometimes ya gotta cut the cord i spose...i did the same thing recently after hurting myself and not being able to fund a project, i got a fair price, but now, 6 mths down the track, im in the same position as before, the only difference being i no longer have that car that i sold, so if you can, Hamfist, try and do it some other way

The ford will never appreciate whereas the EH and FE will- i know what my choice would be.
I have been tempted many times to sell my FC but luckily i kept it and soon will get the benefits of keeping it.

XA/B/C sedans utes coupes vans yes but an ugly boxy unfairlane i doubt it, only certain body types and special vehicles become collectable - ok maybe when there is nothing left to restore they maybe worth more than scrap value.

im not sure if i'd go that far ...
when was the last time you saw a 351 ZH Fairlane for sale? for years they have been used as donor cars and now they are somewhat scarcer that an EH, i'd even go close to say its easier to get an FC in fair, restorable condition that it is to get any "K" Coded Fairlane form 1969-1977.
all you have to do is look at past and current sales and availability, years ago ZC & ZD Fairlanes could not be given away, now, $30k is medium level for a good one, excellent ones are fetching more and rugged ones are $12k-15k, i reckon you get a rippa FC for that sort of money...
granted, the ZH is not the most popular, but when they are in as good condition as the one "hamfist" has, you can do nothing but appreciate the car for what it is, because if you have driven a good one, you wount want to get back into a GM product of the same era, i will and can asurre you of that, and thats coming from me, and staunch GM man!

i think thats true my fairlane is amazing to drive and inside its so comfy the arm chair electric seats are awesome but i still prefer old holdens and yesterday ive got myself 4 rust free doors for the EH and a mint radiator so its coming along well ;D

I cant believe the progress you have made already on the EH. Well done. As many people before me have commented on, I dont know how you do it.
The rust in the rear window is a bit of a surprise considering how the rest of the car is rust free. Knowing you by the time I finish writing this post you would have already achieved it.

Early EH's had HP motors for the 179 and no casting on the side of the block for the 149, later EH's had 149 and 179 cast onto the side of the block.

Essentially there is no diffence in the blocks. I must admit it always looks nicer to have HP rather than the engine size.

Hey hamfist I had a XB Fairmont GS 4 door with 351 - white with blackouts (auto and manual) bare metal reespray in the early 90's (my first proper non bomb car). I really want to get a coupe now as well but one already driveable.

See this beauty that is being built for the touring car masters for 2011.
