Title: Cowl vent rubber Post by: mc54 on October 10, 2009, 03:06:55 PM Hey All
Has any one had a problem with the cowl vent rubber from Rare Spares. The one I bought seems like it is a little too big, however, if that is how they come then I will have to make it fit. Thanks Mike Title: Re: Cowl vent rubber Post by: CraigA on October 10, 2009, 05:24:28 PM I've fitted a few of these Mike and they normally go in OK.
By too big, do you mean its too long, too wide, or seems to sit too high? Title: Re: Cowl vent rubber Post by: mc54 on October 10, 2009, 05:50:48 PM It seems to be too long.
I have just tried to fit it to the cowl vent to see how it would fit that way. The vent does not fit into the groove in the rubber all that well. I guess if I temporarily attach it to the vent and then heat the rubber up, it may decide to stay in that shape. Then I can transfer it into the cowl. If other people have fit them without a lot of trouble, then I should be able to as well. Thanks Mike Title: Re: Cowl vent rubber Post by: CraigA on October 10, 2009, 05:57:07 PM I don't recall any of them being too long. Maybe its been hanging somewhere and has stretched?
The only issue I've had is that they sit a little proud. Title: Re: Cowl vent rubber Post by: mcl1959 on October 10, 2009, 06:27:18 PM When you say the vent doesn't fit into the groove in the rubber - what do you mean? The rubber should sit in the recess in the cowl vent opening.
Ken Title: Re: Cowl vent rubber Post by: GM on October 10, 2009, 07:15:55 PM Yes what Ken said, they sit in the cowl.
Cheers Glenn Title: Re: Cowl vent rubber Post by: mc54 on October 11, 2009, 09:04:34 AM The rubber does sit in the recess in the cowl vent opening. The rubber has a groove on the top side for the lip of the vent itself to go into. Probably for better sealing.
This is where it doesn't really line up too well. I can (and will) glue the rubber to the opening. But if the lip of the vent does not go into the groove in the rubber, will the vent still close all the way? I suppose the only thing to do is to try it. Thanks all Mike Title: Re: Cowl vent rubber Post by: Royal on October 11, 2009, 07:52:00 PM Hi Mike I think you will find the groove you mention actually fits over the lip on the cowl I think if you turn the seal over you will see what I mean, hope this helps.
Roy Title: Re: Cowl vent rubber Post by: mc54 on October 12, 2009, 04:26:18 AM Jeez, Do I feel foolish. Even though I should know better, I got it into my head that the seal went in one way. Thanks Roy, I had it upside down.
Even though I have said this before, I don't think I can say it too many times. I would like to thank all the forum members, not only for the replies to this post but for all the help in general. Once again you have saved me from making a mess. Thought about changing my forum name to Blood, Sweat And Tears. Kinda describes working on this car the past few years. But it has been worth it cause my baby drives nice. Thanks again Mike |
