Title: FC diff- HR disc front end. Post by: DN2168 on October 03, 2009, 03:03:24 PM Quick question, can I use the standard FC diff with a HR disc brake conversion if I had a proportioning valve fitted? I only have 1 HR diff & want to use it later on. Or should I just fit the HR diff? Not sure if it is drum or disc diff.
Thanks, Dean. Title: Re: FC diff- HR disc front end. Post by: mcl1959 on October 03, 2009, 05:05:05 PM The proportioning valve only limits pressure and is suited to the rear wheel cylinder size and brake area for the car it came out of. If these things are significantly different to the FC brake set up then the proportioning valve will not supply the correct limiting pressure. You really need an adjustable proportioning valve so you can set the pressure by experimentation.

Post by: jasonr70002 on October 03, 2009, 09:42:30 PM Ken, Is there any benefit for going to a HR diff over the FE one as far as braking is concerned or is an adjustable proportioning valve all that is needed and the FE brakes work as good as HR. Sorry for hijacking the thread but I have the same question.
cheers jason Title: Re: FC diff- HR disc front end. Post by: mcl1959 on October 04, 2009, 06:20:06 PM HR rear brakes are superior to FC both in performance and operation. The downside with the HR rear end is that the handbrake cable adaption is a little tricky.
IMHO - why would you mess about with a proportioning valve and all the fiddling to get it right when you can put in a HR diff and the rear brakes are matched to the front ones. (HR rear brakes are the same as the late Torana ones) Ken Title: Re: FC diff- HR disc front end. jason Title: Re: FC diff- HR disc front end. Post by: mcl1959 on October 04, 2009, 07:27:31 PM No, HR brakes don't fit FE diffs.
