dadsfc, put your location in your signature so when you ask these question we don't need to ask where you are from.

As to diffs, why the 9 inch? I am part way through installing a Dana 30 (Volvo240) diff, I have seen these installed in two blown cars one a V8 and one a 6 and neither have broken. The one in the blown 6 car has seen extreme duty as a burnout competitor.
I got the diff for $150, $100 to get the old holden mounts welded on, $470 for an LSD centre then whatever it's going to cost in new rotors, reco calipers and modded handbrake cable.

dadsfc,

A Hilux diff rivals a 9 inch for being pretty much unbreakable. Better still, they're fairly commonplace and relatively inexpensive (when compared to a 9 inch).

Just my two cents ...

Check with your engineer. Mine wouldn't allow me to move any of the original chassis, but I did get about an extra 20mm by cutting the inner guard out.

moving the rear rails can be done and if done neatly and you use factory tub sections most engineers wouldnt pick it as long as you had the correct front to rear tyre ratio and track width at the time of engineering of course ;),if you had to pay someone to do it for you i hope you have deep pockets.
