Title: 2pak paint info Post by: stapla on July 11, 2009, 02:37:51 PM Hi all,
Apparently the orignal paint codes (lead based enamel) don't translate directly to modern 2pak paints and my painter doesn't have it on file. Doing a search on this site shows a few people asking the same question. I'll give PPG a ring on monday to see if they can help. In the meantime has anyone else used these colors with PPG paint and have any tinting info ? I've found an old thread that had some tinting info for Autothane paint. Ascot Grey Wangarra Grey Cinder Grey Thanks Peter. Title: Re: 2pak paint info Post by: mcl1959 on July 11, 2009, 04:39:39 PM Did you see a reference to Eastern Auto Paints in Vic in your search? This company has all the old paint codes converted to acrylic and 2 pak codes.

Didn't find that eastern auto paints post originally when searching for "ppg" or "tint". I'll get in touch with him on monday. Has anyone got any color names for - oil filter orange - underside sunvisor green. I assume the sunvisor underside green wasn't done in body color to limit reflective issues ? Cheers Peter. for your sunvisor colour, speak to Kenneys at Carramar (NSW). I 'convinced' them that it would be a very good idea to save the formula so that others could use it. Title: Re: 2pak paint info Post by: stapla on July 13, 2009, 03:58:39 PM Chasing 50 year old paint colors has been a bit of a challenge. Have got some solid leads on the main body colors and cinder grey.
The sunvisor color has been a bit more fun. Ended up finding the Jason guy that used to work @ Kenny's - Carramar. Unfortunately he doesn't work there anymore and didn't do a formula. He said the only choice is for someone to color match a sample - which I don't have :( Title: Re: 2pak paint info Post by: Fc1958 on July 13, 2009, 08:11:16 PM is there a way you can take a sample to PPg and get them to use a spectrometer to get a fomula for how many grams of paint to make what color?
Title: Re: 2pak paint info Post by: FC427 on July 13, 2009, 09:37:22 PM A lot of panel shops now have 5 angle cameras that take a shot of the colour on a panel then plug in to a computer to give a formula but any good paint shop should be able to eye match to sample ..........FC427.........
Title: Re: 2pak paint info Post by: Spinner on July 13, 2009, 09:55:07 PM I can take some unused paint back to Kenneys and ask them to match it again.
Title: Re: 2pak paint info Post by: stapla on July 13, 2009, 10:41:39 PM Thanks for the offer Spinner.
I'll touch base with my painter tomorrow and find out how he wants to proceed. Cheers Peter. Title: Re: 2pak paint info Post by: Martin on July 14, 2009, 12:30:28 AM Oil filter colour:
Peter, I got a spray can of Chev engine orange and did my filter. I reckon it looks pretty good. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v451/lewis1411/OilFilter1.jpg) Ken has the decals. Martin Title: Re: 2pak paint info Post by: cer444 on July 15, 2009, 08:44:03 PM Hi All,
I am wanting to also get hold of the colour name or code for the green under the sun visor, has anyone had any luck with this yet?? Cheers, Aaron Title: Re: 2pak paint info Post by: mcl1959 on July 15, 2009, 09:35:59 PM Never had it coded - just had it eyematched and painted when needed. Is there no paint good enough for an eyematch?

mcl1959 - i had the sunvisor blasted. When it had paint on it, it was pretty faded so not really that useful to match. Title: Re: 2pak paint info Post by: cer444 on July 16, 2009, 04:12:15 PM Ken,
The paint was stripped off the visor a long time ago and I have nothing to go off, do you have a sample I can get hold of? Cheers, Aaron Title: Re: 2pak paint info Post by: mcl1959 on July 17, 2009, 09:47:05 PM No I don't have any visors
