Title: HR Auto Column
Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on July 10, 2009, 03:13:32 PM
Is is possible to use a HR auto column with a trimatic?
If not, what options are there for a column shifted auto in an FE/FC without going to R&P?

I used a EJ auto column which is similar. You will need to modify the prindle, the lock out and the safety switch, and modify some shifter linkages to suit but otherwise it is OK.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a prindle?

Sorry about the 2nd post - we seem to have lost the "edit" function again!

The PRNDL is the shift gate at the bottom of the steering column.  You can either file it to your own pattern to suit the tri-matic or make a new one.  The one in the van says PRND321 !  ;)

HR had a power glide which is only two speed so the indicator at the top will need modifying as well.... maybe use the LC Torana Trimatic  one grafted to the EH column that way your steering box will still supported by 3 bolts not 2 as is the case for the HR to the subframe ......FC427......

Glenn,I had a HR (my first car) which was originally auto but had torana running gear (173 and trimatic).I just used to guess where drive was because it was just a bit out of whack.Worked fine though.
