Hardimans  Performance are still the agent for Vertex and should be able to help you out if you want to go down that path ........FC427.......

The grey powered speedway midgets mostly ran magnetos.

Not sure what type though, but I'm sure Alex would have a picture of one in his amazing photo archives.

Hi Barry,
Yes that Judson electronic magneto will work in conjunction with a grey motor. From what I've researched, production of these units began in the late 50's through to the late 60's. The Judson unit is basically a capacitor that steps up the primary voltage, which in turn, gives your existing coil a hotter output. They're used in conjunction with an existing ignition system (ie. a standard grey motor distributor and coil)

Apparently a 6 volt and 12 volt version were produced, but I've only ever seen the 6 volt model.

The Judson unit is not related to the internal coil/self sufficient Vertex type systems that most people think of when they hear the word magneto.

I have a fitting/instruction manual here for the Judson unit that I can photocopy if you need

Cheers
