Title: Light bulbs blinkers and headlights
Post by: Not Happy Jan on June 19, 2009, 12:55:58 PM
Hi everyone
I'm allowed one really basic ( stupid) question??? So here goes
When replacing ( or in my case installing) my bulbs for the headlights and the blinkers/brake lights etc what bulbs do I ask for. My sockets are empty so I can't take one up to show to replace it.
Is this a dumb question as most parts places would know what I need???
Thanks in advance
Nick

John, why not answer the question on line so everybody can see the answer?  Others can benefit from this info in the future.

Ken,

My reply to Nick was that it was not a stupid question, I advise him to look in the workshop manual, if he had no joy I would assist!

Cheers
John

No problems John, I agree it is not a stupid question.

Nick,  the blinkers and brake lights are standard bayonet type - the original spec is 4/32 candlepower (cp) twin filament for the tail/stop lights and FC front indicator/park lights. The FE front indicators are single filament 32cp.
Headlamp globes are special shapes and depend on what brand of lights you have. Lucas globes are 42/36 Watt and are commonly obtained. Bosch globes are 45/40 Watt and are not obtainable from every outlet.
The headlight glass identifies which globe you will need.

I have Bosch headlights in my station sedan and have had trouble trying to source original globes.
I did buy Halogen bulbs from http://classicandvintagebulbs.com but they are alot brighter being 60/55 watt and were also quite expensive.
The other day I found the right globes surfing the net which are 12v 45/40 watt with a Ba 20d base.
These came from http://www.naauto.biz insert ba1245 into the search area.
They are the right ones, are the right shape and work perfectly  :)
I can happily recommend their service and they have alot of other auto electrical gear.

Hope this may help anyone looking for the proper Bosch headlight globe.
