Title: Engineer requirements for NSW rego
Post by: tmudie on January 06, 2003, 08:01:11 AM
Hi All,

are the NSW rego requirements documented anywhere, or on a website? has anyone gone through an engineer report recently? I just want to know the basics for a 179 trimatic conversion.

I understand the following:

need HR front end
disc brakes (front) rear drum ok?
additional (hadfield type) chassis

do I need a collapsible steering setup?

any other gotchas I should be aware of? Thanks

Tony

you have to have a heater with demister, and 2 speed wipers. i don't think it is necessary to have a chassis kit for an upgrade to a 179 though, unless things have changed. drums for the rear are ok, just make sure that the slave cylinders are the correct ones for a disc brake front end so that the pressure is balanced.

not much info, but hope it helps a little

All the information is available on the RTA's website - as long as you can find it ::)  They seem to move everything around every so often just for the heck of it.

Anyway, the document is called "Vehicle Standards Information #6: Guidelines for Light Vehicle Modifications".

If you type in 'light vehicle modifications' into the search bar on the RTA's website ($2), it comes up top of the list.  I could give you the  URL, but it might move again before you read this post :P

Otherwise I've got a copy I can email you if you have trouble getting it from the RTA.

FWIW Single-speed wipers are OK, as long as they do 45 sweeps/minute or better.  As Simon says ;D, chassis is not required for a red motor, as long as you can hang your gearbox without one.

If you need details of a good engineer in Sydney, there's one in Mortdale that a number of club members have been to.  Do a search on the site for "Lohning" and you'll find the details where they've been discussed before.

cheers
RET

Thanks Simon/RET,

I've got a 2 speed wiper motor so will put that, same with the chassis I think I have the 3/4 components that I can source. I thought there was additional chassis for the frontend, but it doesnt sound like I need it anyway.

RET have found the RTA data and just printed out. Thanks
