Title: FE Ute Ash Tray
Post by: plumer46 on May 10, 2009, 08:38:16 AM
G'Day all

I have two Ash Trays one with a Lighter, one with a Blank, they are approx. 2-3mm longer than the opening in the Dash.

Is there a difference in FE/FE and FB/EK Dash opening size.

Regards

John

John, FB EK ash tray is completely different to FE FC so this is not it.
When you say longer  - do you mean the width or the depth?

Only 225's and 229's had lighters fitted from the factory - all other models had a blanking plate in place. Smoking was much more common place in the 50's and 60's so not many cars didn't end up with a lighter fitted either from new or some time down the track.

Hi Ken

The Ash Trays I have are longer, is this a tight fit, do you need to tap in with a mallet.

The complete unit including lighter should go in from under the dash if memory serves correctly this is why the base appears bigger, the screws go through the dash panel and secure into the ashtray housing, the top lid should have a little clearance all round so it can open and shut.  PM your email address and I will send you a pic if necessary.
