Hi all,

Finally I have my shed ready to move the car in, however I have 1 problem.  The subframe and front cross member are totally off the car and in primer/powerdercoat at a different location.  What I need to do is figure a way to get the car rolling on 2 wheels allowing me to get it on a tilt tray to its new home.......

I have had a few ideas which revolve around bolting a trailer jockey wheel or perhaps a wheelbarrow type wheel to the chassis but thought i might check on here to see if anyone else has any ideas??  I am 100% sure this has been done before by someone!

I remember someone doing that when they were sending their car to the sandblasters but i can't remember who, in real cars i think, maybe Kathi with her memory for details would remember.

This one bolts to the front cross member mounting points, but you could also fabricate one that bolted to the subframe mounting holes or to the underfloor crossmember.

Quick replies guys I appreciate that..............The jockey wheel idea is what I was thinking however I am trying to limit fabrication and cost for something that will only be used for one day.

Keep the ideas rolling.

Lend/rent one or two piano moving trolleys from a removalist. The front of an empty shell would weigh heaps less than your average piano I would reckon.

Tie the buggers down with straps and ropes possibly.

Or hack up a couple of old (or new) shopping trolleys :o :o.

totally agree with the skateboard idea however the only snag is it has to roll over dirt for a about 50m or so to be retrieved from my parents back yard!

Piano trolley seems to be the best idea i have heard so far hahah thanks guys

wheelbarrow.... then youve also got handles.

everybody knows somebody with a wheelbarrow.

wheelbarrow would be ok but not so good for when the tow truck driver is hauling it up onto the truck! hahahaha

I once made one up from a Supercheap hand trolley. I made a bracket that bolted at the lower front of the car. I then made another that went onto a supercheap hand trolley. I mounted a towball to the trolley and coupling to the bracket. This way I just had to push the hand trolley down to get a cantilever effect and the front of the car was raised and I was able to "tow" the shell wherever it needed to be. This was done on a HK Brougham which is heavier than a FC.

Put some weight in the boot and you will find that it is fairly easy to lift by hand... Put it on the truck rearwards and then sit on an old tyre until the other end... When i was doing the van i moved it around this way for a bit.

With my wagon I used a stair climber trolley, the tongue went into the gearbox cover hole. a couple of guys to push & 1 to steer.

Fantastic advice guys once again why live out a painful moment when there are so many people on here who have lived them out before..............It only took me about 20 little jobs and stuff ups to realise this!

Pretty much reckon that there is nothing you can do to an FE or an FC that someone on here as not already stuffed up, skun knuckles on, cried over, cut out, fixed or just about any thing else you can think of.

Maybe strapping a nuclear bomb to one, think that has not been done yet.

By the way if you don't take pictures of that thing being dragged on to the tow truck there will be hell to pay. ;D ;D ;D
