Title: Re: FC GEAR BOX Post by: FC427 on January 22, 2009, 02:12:23 PM And after you break them you'll need a few more ........Unless it's a standard 186 and you drive very carefully.. They don't tend to last long if you have a heavy foot so be prepaired to change a few g/boxes.. If you chose a smaller engine 149 161 Ci the power and torque will be more suited to the standard g/box remember the standard g/box was designed to cope with only around 60HP and not 100+ HP .........FC427..........
Title: Re: FC GEAR BOX Post by: CraigA on January 22, 2009, 06:31:51 PM I have a full house 149 ;) and gave it a hit into 2nd once - no more second gear.
With a 186 go the extra effort and mod the floor or find a Toyota 4 speed conversion. They pop up on eBay now and then. Title: Re: FC GEAR BOX Post by: FB_MAD on January 22, 2009, 07:10:16 PM I have a standard 149 and drive like an old fart and don't have any problems with my grey box.
Title: Re: FC GEAR BOX Post by: weddo on January 22, 2009, 11:50:25 PM Kiwi,
I have a 100hp grey behind a standard 3 speed and I give it a good squirt every now and then and havn't had any problems. So long as you are not going to race it and it is a good box to start with you shouldn't have any problems.
