Title: Could I lift out an engine by hand? Yep! Post by: Paul In Ireland on January 03, 2009, 05:45:23 AM Was trying to work out where to borrow a lift from to get out the spare engine that came over with the FE. Was looking around the garage and decided to knock up something from some scrap timber and a couple of dollys. Then I thought to myself I could probably get it out myself if I am smart and don't damage the body. This is what I came up with:
Screw in some heavy enough timbers and create a ramp to the new engine dolly: (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/ballymackibbot/em3.jpg) Slide the engine forward and get it ready: (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/ballymackibbot/em1.jpg) Lift up one end only and swing it onto the ramp: (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/ballymackibbot/em2.jpg) Then the other end: (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/ballymackibbot/em4.jpg) Slide it on down the ramp. However, using my head I never had to lift too heavy a weight and the whole thing took less than an hour and cost nothing. It would have taken longer to go and borrow gear, use it and bring it back.
