Title: Grey motor with and "ID" prefix Post by: EffCee on December 09, 2008, 07:23:52 PM On Ebay at the moment there is a Grey motor with an ID prefix. the seller seems to think that it was possibly a NASCO replacement block or could be an industrial engine.

Title: Re: Grey motor with and "ID" prefix Post by: mcl1959 on December 10, 2008, 09:16:07 AM I'm sure it's a forklift engine - they were very common in the 60's and there were still lots of them running into the late 70's - The rise of more stringent safety standards for forklifts in the 80's saw the demise of them, and I haven't seen one now for over 20 years.
When I first started work at Olex Cables as an aspiring young engineer we had one of these forklifts and if my memory serves me correctly - the engine was painted green as the seller states that this one is. It has never been grey, the paint is originally green.

Peter Title: Re: Grey motor with and "ID" prefix Post by: mcl1959 on December 10, 2008, 08:55:59 PM Hi Peter, It's not a NASCO replacement block for a car - These were all police stamped so would start and end with VP or NP etc with a series of numbers in between. It is theoretically possible that it may have been a NASCO replacement block for the forklift though because I don't know how new blocks for forklifts were stamped.

Solid tyres, LP gas powered grey motor... as you can imagine, not too many keen operators. Sorry that I led you all astray- on further inspection, the engine is a Gem exchange. Couldn't see the engine number but don't think it would be anything too exciting. Owners don't know when it was swapped over. They've had the forklift since the late 1970s with its current engine. It is a Yale forklift. |
