Title: FC Ute
Post by: MY UTE on August 30, 2008, 10:17:45 AM
Hi Guys, i have just bought an FC ute and it has a 161 motor coupled to the old grey motor 3 speed box, i would like to fit an aussie 4 speed, i will have bucket seats so shifter position should be ok, i was wondering what do i need to do to fit this, also i would like to locate a twin carb manifold and carbs to fit, as well as perhaps putting disc brakes on, i know about the HR front end conversion , but was wondering what other brake system can be used if any, all help will be appreciated.

The trans tunnel will most likely need to be modified or at the very least massaged a bit.
Trading Post, Oztion, Holden Forums and dare I say ebay are your best bets for locating carbs and manifolds, some manifolds can be bought new from places like Hardiman/Redline, Xtreme Carby services may sell carbs as well as their changeover service.
Not sure about disc brakes to FC front-ends, if you are keeping the 161 and don't drive like a maniac the drums should be OK.

There is a CRS disc brake conversion for FC front end but I wouldn't use it on my own car. Other options depend on your skill level and finances - Torana front ends can be done and there are some big dollar custom made independant front ends available as well. Best value for money, you cant beat a HR front end. ;)

Apart from tunnel mods, you will need a custom length tailshaft and a half chassis kit to support the rear of the gearbox from. Make sure your Aussie box is pre Commodore with hydraulic clutch.
