Title: Bits & Pieces - A couple of queries
Post by: Rod on August 27, 2008, 09:44:55 PM
Hi All,

Been doing a few odd jobs and as a result I have got a couple of quick queries. In my FE sedan i have standard Bosch headlights with one globe blown. Is it difficult to convert these to hallogen globes? (My FC has Lucas assemblies and they have been converted and the hallogen globe fits in nicely. Tried this with the Bosch and the body of the H4 globes are too small.

Secondly are brushes easily accessible for both starter motors and generators. Have checked mine and they seem to be getting down quite a bit. Would like to replace them before they cause me trouble.

Thanks again.

Rod

Rod, much easier to convert to Lucas headlights as the Hallogen globes are available to fit straight in - nothing available for Bosch lights that I know of.
Brushes should be available from auto elecs but I have never bought any for a long while.

Thanks again Ken. If I was to go the Lucas path as I have with my FC ute what then happens to the parking lights? The Bosch ones have a separate globe for park. Would I then need to convert the blinkers in the FE to park like they are in the FC's.

Cheers

Rod, FE Lucas headlights have a separate hole in them to for the parking light.

Hi Rod,

Classic and Vintage Bulbs do a halogen globe which fits the Bosch insert...see photo below. Its a Ba20d and when I bought mine (a couple of years ago) they were $24 each. They also do the complete Lucas bucket etc in case you wish to convert plus some other interesting stuff (e.g. repro Lucas dipping rearview mirrors)

Thanks Jon,

No bad value when you consider replacement globes cost $25-26 anyway. Will look into it.

Cheers
