Title: Tasman wheels
Post by: crossply on June 08, 2008, 10:11:55 PM
These are on ebay at the moment. Ebay Item #260247457823
Does anyone know if they could be restored and rechromed? Would it be worth it or not?
Paul

I believe the cost to replace the chrome rim is about $160 per wheel.
The hard part is finding the right size rim, as the new rims are metric and not the correct size for the job.
You could always try painting the rim, this sometimes looks OK.

You could always get the centres taken out and restore both rim and centre if their condition is OK.
The Tasman centres that I have, the wheel place said they would split the rims from the centres, then fill weld the ends of the spokes and turn them down to fit new chrome rims.
So anything is possible.

Thanks Guys,
Sounds like a fairly expensive option, plus the hassle of finding a set of centre caps.
Might be better off trying to find a better set to start with instead.

The center cap saga very hard to get I had two [mark 2] caps I was hanging on two, my mate started with $10 each and drove me mad kept offering more $$$ till I sold him them then a week later I found one more when I was cleaning up the shed I didn't tell him about this one .....FC427....

Like anything die-cast it will be hard to get any in pristine condition, I had an engineering shop machine a blank set for me from a cap that I borrowed, when it comes time to fit I'll get some Tasman stickers made up for the centres.
