Title: Cowra Wreck Post by: FE_225 on June 08, 2008, 03:44:09 PM Hi Guys
Have known about this wreck for a few years now and finally made to the trip to Cowra to check it out. The owner of the wrecking yard denied it's existence but after a bit of persuasion he let my daughter and myself in to check it out. Details: FE225 19991S Trim 6-703AO Paint 256-7449 Sorry no chassis or engine #, skirt has been replaced at some stage and motor was replaced with a B prefix block. Has been repainted Elk Blue, including the door seals, lock mechs etc. was never stripped for painting. Who'd respray a Cabot Grey car Elk Blue :P Still has lots of good parts including the front chassis. The owner of the yard won't strip it for parts (he couldn't be bothered) wouldn't let me strip it (worried about his public liability insurance) and won't sell it complete. Bit of a waste.. Yes the wreckers was originally at burliegh and was owned by Will Smith, I used to know his daughter, I think he moved it to where it is now in the late seventies, and sold it a few years later, the pink FX came from a shop in surfers, apparently the owners bought a perfectly good car and just cut it in half, both Will and the new owners had a fearsome reputation and all us young blokes used to crap ourselves when we had to go there :D Pedro Title: Re: Cowra Wreck Post by: FE_225 on June 08, 2008, 09:53:42 PM Hi c-ride
Yeah still around, don't get much net time anymore :( Quote i was never aloud back in . guess i was lucky to get in there ...these owners sound similar ! Yeah, I know the feeling. I took these pix on my second visit a few hours later. The boss had gone out and the boys let me in to take some pix. The boss turned up later, found out I was in there again and he sent one of the guys down to get me and I was escorted to the front door. Guess I won't be allowed back in either. hahahaCheers Tony Title: Re: Cowra Wreck Post by: coolaride on June 08, 2008, 10:07:05 PM Quote The boss had gone out and the boys let me in that is what happened to me .. but the boss never came when i was there .. thats funny .. was thinking about some midnight spares but he had 3 mean looking dogs .. I dropped in to that yard in Cowra a couple of years ago and it was when it was still a real wrecking yard, if you wanted a part you had to go out the back and pull it out yourself. I remember looking at the FE, the FB ute and the EH (this was before my interest in FCs really took off). I went back there a couple of months ago and asked the guys at the counter whether I could go and see if there was any usable parts on the FE and he said "Nah mate we had a clean out and got rid of all that old junk, there's nothing pre 1980 anymore". At the time I thought that it was a pity as they had some really good wrecks there and I enjoyed roaming around having a look at them. Quite obviously he was Bulls**ting because it looks the same as it did years ago. I don't understand what the problem is?? or why he doesn't want to sell. Remember the big line up of XA to XC rubbish in the same row?? According to one of the boys there, they are part of his private collection that he is going to restore one day :P Maybe he has the same plans for the FE and the others ;D Cheers Tony Title: Re: Cowra Wreck Post by: colt on June 09, 2008, 10:14:15 PM I've been meaning to visit that yard for a while now. I guess I won't worry about it. More lost cars.
Title: Re: Cowra Wreck Post by: nige and Jody on June 12, 2008, 12:53:52 AM Yeah Tony,
Don't really remember the F88D stuff there were so many early models there, I do recall there was heaps of really early Valiant stuff (S, R, AP5 etc) as well if you are in to that sort of stuff. I was for ever getting into trouble with the wife and kids for stopping there and wandering around on our trips from Bathurst (outlaws) to Albury. All I do now is wistfully look in over the fence as I drive by. It's a pity because genuine restorers could use the gear there and I betcha the owner will never do anything with it. Then again it's his stuff so I guess he can do what he likes. Imagine you walk in and offer $20 for an old wiper motor. Then he hears they're going for over $200 on ebay. Or you give him $10 for the read light assembly when he should get loads more. Maybe he thinks he'll hang onto it and make loads of cash in a few years when there are none of these left in the wreckers - problem with that theory is that if something is really rare and gets real expensive, someone will start making repro stuff. Or he just doesn't give a flying f... Title: Re: Cowra Wreck Post by: coolaride on July 20, 2008, 09:23:54 PM hey
