Haydn,

Ignore the gibberers.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I would counsel against attempting to repaint one yourself. Apart from the intricate design - which I've never seen successfully repainted by hand - there's the matter of vacuum-metallizing the back of the design to give it the necessary lustre. The latter can be done, but now that Rare Spares have a very very good reproduction item available, why would you bother?

If you need to know the colours for some other reason, I can only suggest taking a repro horn button to a spray painter to see if they can do a spot-colour match.

Hope that's helpful.

TO THE F4 GANG AND ASSORTED EGGERS-ON:

Posting this me-too drivel may get your post-count up, but it will also get you in the sin-bin if you keep it up. A number of your posts have been Reported to Moderators, and frankly the signal-to-noise ratio is not good enough. There will not be a second warning.

Sorry, should have also mentioned that the ones available from Rares are going to be far better than anything you can reproduce yourself and will probably end up cheaper. The one I bought from Rares will certainly do the job nicely and I did entertain the idea of repainting one of my spare ones.Cheers,Jamie.

Thanks Ken
All is OK I expected to get the obvious answers as soon as I finished my post
All taken in fun
I actually wanted to paint the bonett insert but have been getting nowhere with the local panel beaters and paint shops I thought that at least if it had a bit of colour on it , it would be better than the way it is now (transparent)
Looks like I may have to purchase a horn button and turn it down

Cheers
Haydn

Hi Haydn

Just prior to RET's post I had been searching through the forum to see if I could find an answer for you as I knew this topic had been raised before.  Anyway.....

I've been deliberately running my bonnet and boot inserts transparent for almost 20 years now - along with a lack of paint in all badges. I've been happy with the look, but, that is my choice!

We had considered recently getting a horn button and using a linisher to try and "sand" it down to the correct size.  I didn't know if anyone else had any ideas on this method. At the risk of offending anyone - we have a spare FB/EK one were going to experiment with (cos that's late model stuff and it doesn't count, does it?)

Don't mention it, Bill  ::)

Maco from the NSW club has produced a bonnet button from a horn button ($2). Send him a PM to find out more.

Hey Haydn,
I have come up with a pretty good match, as stated the vacuum-metallizing is what make it great, howevr if you go to your localmodel\toy shop they sell tamiya model paint that is transparent,
x-27 clear red and x-13 metallic blue both acrylic, then back it with some chrome paint it is a pretty good match. Failly that buy a new horn button and get it turned down to the right size
cheers
