Title: FC's first classic run and show this weekend
Post by: Paul In Ireland on May 24, 2008, 09:45:59 AM
Today at 2pm on the first run in Ireland for the FC. Sunday for the first show. May even win a trophy at the show (so a little birdie told me).

Will be taking 3 utes - the FC and 2 US step side v8's - and a car for the Sunday show. I will post some pics after the weekend for those who would be interested.

Dean - the birdie runs the show and has seen the FC as he lives about 5k's away.

Lovely show - free entry for cars and visitors and usually about 300 cars. It's all about car enthusiusts and there are about 30 perpetual trophy's for all sorts. I think I will get at least one for the "Furthest Travelled" trophy.....

My solicitor (also a friend) has a Morgan and I have convinced him to come so I can go for a spin - he doesn't realise if I go with it I ain't coming back!!

Out on the run on Saturday, Lismore Castle in the background:

Some pics of the show on Sunday, the cars with the flags are mine and you will notice the 3 around the FC are specific:

The show overall, and yes I got to be the centre of attention, just look for the flags:

And as for trophys - I won "Motoring Icon" - but for the Bentley, not the FC. Maybe next year!

Hi Paul

Looked like a good turnout for the day - great to see you proudly flying the flag(s) for Australia.

I know it's probably too early yet - but did your dad (oh and the car) get home alright from the road trip ?  :D

Gary, I took 4 but I only live about 15k's away. Of course the Bentley key got stuck in the door so it took til nearly 10pm before I got 'em all home. The wife wasn't that happy running me back and forward but I got a little help from a neighbour as well.

The joys of owning older cars....

Bugger me, I've been to Lismore heaps of times and didn't know it had a castle :o

Great display Paul. With an English car one can always rest secure in the knowledge that it has Lucas electrics and doesn't leak oil from the horn...

In a galaxy far, far away I owned three Jaguars on the trot, the Mark IX manual/overdrive was wonderful, the XJ12 I owned last finished me off. The engine was great, everything else was rubbish.

Keep flying the flag.

John

I'm with you Johns, I coulda sworn we went to Lismore for lunch one day - but that was after we'd been to Nimbin. Maybe that's why we didn't see the castle either!   ;D

Congrats on the win Paul.  If your wife is exasperated now, how will she be when the next one arrives. :o

I can't think of many things that would be sweeter then cruising the B roads of Ireland in an aussie icon, visiting the odd pub and supping on a pint or two of guinness. 8)

Cheers

Steve

Scott, If you were standing by the bonnet of the FC looking in the direction it's facing, I would say about 500m to the southern coast right about the middle of the island.

Look up Youghal, County Cork in Ireland on Google Earth and you can see exactly where I was. In fact, here is the field I was in: 51 56 21.41 N and 7 52 3.64 W.

Paul,

Great pictures, good to someone flying the Australian flag and the boxing Kangaroo over there.

Congrats on winning the trophy, maybe next time you will get one for the FC

Congrats Paul!

Awesome effort to be showing the Aussie icon all the way over there in Ireland.....

No doubt with your FE heading over there soon (maybe), and the increased interest you'll be generating at car shows over there, I imagine it won't be too long before you slogan of "if I started an Ireland Holden Owners Club I would be the only member" will be redundant ;D

Keep up the good work!

Cheers
Les...

Paul,

Good show as it were...  Those Bentleys are very nice.

Now, back to the FC.  You really need to get some correct rims for it (proper offset).  When you receive the FE, you'll see the difference.

I'd suggest that you get some here (in Oz) and load them (sans tyres) into the FE before it goes on the 'Bazza MacKenzie' tour of the UK & Ireland.

Brett,

What is the problem with the ute rims? I thought they were the stock originals I had on it. Maybe I'll see what you mean when I have the FE bur I am a little confused - is the ute too far in or out?

Thanks
Paul
