Title: Carburetion Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on May 11, 2008, 11:31:41 PM I am mulling over ideas for carburetion on the "new project".
Plans are for a mild 202 and 5 speed, the car is intended to be a cruiser so reliability and mileage come before performance. Of course looks will come into it too as I intend the car to be fairly tidy and hopefully hold it's own at a car show. For this reason I have been looking at twin carb setups especially the more unusual twin side-draught setups. I have thought about the VK EFI setup but it doesn't really "sit" with the theme of the car. Does anyone have any advice or experience they can share? Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: FC427 on May 12, 2008, 09:18:46 AM Stinky How about twin 13/4'' SU's I ran a set on a FC I owned No firewall mods a lot easer to tune than triples and great fuel economy and went a lot better than the twin Stromberg's they replaced, I bought the lot new when my mate worked at LYNX for $ 105.oo and came with extra needles and springs [that was years back] ....Just a thought .......FC427.......
Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on May 12, 2008, 07:02:45 PM I have seen them before, are the manifolds still available? Or twin weber manifolds
Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: I958GM on May 12, 2008, 07:51:03 PM l think l seen twin su's with manafold on e-bay in the last couple of days-Hope this helps-Mark
Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on May 12, 2008, 09:07:01 PM Hmmm, what about one of these
(http://i15.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/ed/01/19e7_1.JPG) with one of these (http://www.injectionperfection.com/DCOE4.jpg) Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: FC427 on May 12, 2008, 09:17:33 PM Stinky Whose Weber bolt pattern Throttle Body is that complete with injector holes Hmm Nice ??? ???....FC427.....

Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: smithy on May 13, 2008, 07:40:49 AM very nice looking bit of gear, just wondering how the ECU would handle 2 injectors for the 6 pots. i know when i was putting together my system i couldnt use the red head because the siamese ports would not allow for even fuel distribution (each injector needed its dedicated port unless i went direct port injection ). it might work i guess if the injectors were firing constantly and you had huge injectors but trying to control that may require some sweet tuning/ programming.
now 2 of them would look super sweet ;D ;D ;D Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: Ed on May 13, 2008, 08:08:18 AM why stop at 2? hang 3 of the suckers off your engine. Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: smithy on May 13, 2008, 08:15:04 AM was waiting for you to come in on this one Ed ;D ;D ;D
but i would agree with you, how cool would that look 8) Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: FC427 on May 13, 2008, 08:44:52 AM On their site they say they have one for 4 injectors as well ,how about 2 for fuel 2 for methanol on top of my little blower . Bryant engineering also make injection for blue / black engines that looks real cool .......FC427.....
Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: Ed on May 13, 2008, 10:38:00 AM I love your EFI setup Dean, it's innovative using readily available parts.
I think Diablo motors makes a quad 48IDA style manifold for V8s and 4 of these TB's perched on top would certainly look the business. thing is with TB injection you're always going to have compromised fuel distribution, unfortunately not every motor or cylinder head has the option of direct port injection. Fatboy has a really cool EFI set up, but I won't steal his thunder... post a pic Fat. Cheers Ed Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: smithy on May 13, 2008, 11:42:41 AM Quote I love your EFI setup Dean, it's innovative using readily available parts. thanks ed i have you to blame, i mean thanks for the switch. ;Dit would be interesting to see these throttle bodies setup on a holden 6, i have seen the bryant setup looks great but not cheap. how deep is the pocket stinky? ;) Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: I958GM on May 14, 2008, 02:27:40 PM Stinky- if your still thinking of twin carbs, theres a set on e-bay at the moment under holden parts. 1957GM-Mark
Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on May 14, 2008, 05:36:05 PM Thanks, I am watching a few at the moment, I am not looking to buy just yet as I haven't made up my mind :-\
Just throwing ideas around at the moment. Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: smithy on May 14, 2008, 06:43:26 PM what about supercahrger with LPG. there's a nice thread on ozrodders at the moment with this little setup ;)
Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: DN2168 on May 14, 2008, 09:50:51 PM Sorry to get all pre-historic guys but how do reds go with the single side draught weber on them. I am thinking stage 3 head mild cam good exhaust ect, for mine.
Dean. Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: FC427 on May 14, 2008, 10:02:29 PM I use to run a single 45mm DCOE on one of my EH's and it was nothing special changed to 3 x su's and picked it up a lot . On my blower set up for the FC I run 1 x 48mm IDF and it feeds it no problems........FC427........
Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: fe1957 on May 14, 2008, 10:06:43 PM Sorry to get all pre-historic guys but how do reds go with the single side draught weber on them. I am thinking stage 3 head mild cam good exhaust ect, for mine. Dean. Not that well, I has a set-up a few years ago, and I will give any induction system a go but never had any success. Stinky why dont you look at a 4 barrel holley injection set-up (not the actual holley projection) from that company (you can also scource from ebay america cheaply) This would fit well and go great (hmmm plus plumb in a nitrous plate system ;D) cheers Grant Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on May 14, 2008, 11:06:31 PM I really want duals or triples in a pinch, I have stumbled across some "special" TBI setups will post more if it looks promising.
Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: JSM on May 15, 2008, 05:50:56 PM G'day Mate,
sore this twin su manifold for red on ebay, thought it might be the kind of thing your after.... Don't know how to make a link so i copied the address from my browser and pasted it here. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HOLDEN-RED-6-TWIN-SU-MANIFOLD-EH-EJ-HR-HT-TORANA-HOTROD_W0QQitemZ330236478767QQihZ014QQcategoryZ6763QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on May 15, 2008, 06:23:04 PM Thanks for that, I might look at an sidedraught Stromberg manifold now though ::)
I found this site that has throttle body conversions for Stromberg carbs, Hmmm..... triple Stromberg setup with the benefit of fuel injection :o http://www.pattonmachine.com/TBIComponents.htm Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: DN2168 on August 21, 2008, 08:56:22 PM Stinky have you looked into the triple down draught stromberg set-ups from redline? I am thinking about one for my 186 seeing as how the plans for a V6 conversion were flamed last night by the ministed of war & finance ;D.
Dean. Title: Re: Carburetion Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on August 21, 2008, 09:47:55 PM I have got hold of a trio of sidedraught SUs and pursuing the TBI route ;D
