Title: Which booster is required Post by: EffCee on May 06, 2008, 11:22:33 PM I am fitting a disc brake HR front end to my FC. The car will have a red motor in it and may require an additional vacuumm tank because of the cam profile installed.
That being said, the donor car that I am taking the HR Disc brake Front and Rear from has already had the booster removed. What booster do I need, is it a VH 24, 40 or 44. Are there any difference in sizes or are they the same size? It has been far too many years since I had anything to do with these old boosters but something about the VH40 sticks in my mind. If memory serves correctly these were also used on XR,XT F@*ds that were fitted with disc brakes. Can anyone confirm if this is correct Title: Re: Which booster is required Post by: Paul In Ireland on May 07, 2008, 07:08:08 AM I am fairly sure the 40 is for discs and the 44 is for drums. So with a Hr disc front end I would say the vh40 is ya man. I am sure someone else will confirm this.
Title: Re: Which booster is required Post by: pedro on May 07, 2008, 07:18:26 AM it's the vh40, you will need to change the rear wheel slave cylinders to match.

What do I need to change the rear wheel cylinders to? The rear end is the from the same car that the front end come from, just the booster was missing. Title: Re: Which booster is required Post by: smithy on May 07, 2008, 08:03:36 AM hi keith, the rear should use hr slave cylinders, wheather or not you need a proportioning valve im not sure, someone will be able to answer that. if this is the case i may have one sitting here.
as far as boosters go i was previously using one from an HK but found it too bulky. the one im using at the moment is from a VH commy, very simple swap the old bracket just needed minimal modifcation. dean Title: Re: Which booster is required Post by: FC427 on May 07, 2008, 02:17:29 PM If you are using the rear end from the HR disc front all should be OK as the rear brakes had smaller dia wheel cylinders for the disc front to stop the rear wheels from locking up .....FC427.....
Title: Re: Which booster is required Post by: pedro on May 07, 2008, 02:39:41 PM It's easy to check, just remove a rear brake drum and inspect the slave cylinder the standard FC ones are a lot bigger 8)
Title: Re: Which booster is required Post by: pedro on May 07, 2008, 02:53:40 PM That's a handy peice of info Dean, I just went and checked on a VH dunnydoor and they are about the same size as a VH40, it would definately look neater than a remote booster and would save me having to get the VH40 reco'd, any one out there been running one for a while, i'd be interested to know how well they work. :)
