Title: red/blue/black dipsticks
Post by: NO NAME on April 15, 2008, 08:49:50 PM
I just found my old chrome dipstick, i was using one temporarily that came from a car at the wreckers with a tube in the block(not sump), it was painted blue, marked 3.3 with a red head, it was in a hq ute.
i just noticed my chrome dipstick is longer, now i am scared it could get eaten by the black motor crank i have in my 179, is this dipstick safe to put back in with the new counterweighted crank?
could i have been running my oil level too high, how do you know?

Leon use a dip stick and tube to suit the sump you are using so if it's EH sump use EH and you will be safe  .......FC427........

Not sure about the length issue, I have a blue crank in a red 202 with a EH sump. I compared lengths with a standard set up for th EH and used a modified later model dipstick and tube. After some weird noise issues I found the dipstick had been wearing on the crank when put in a certain way. I now keep the dipstick  clipped to the engine bay with a rubber grommet sealing the tube on the engine until I want to check the oil. Not a great solution but no more funny noises.

how long is a eh dipstick and how long is a eh tube, my tupe and stick are just one of those redline brand red motor ones.

hey thanks mark, that saved me spending money on a new stick ;D ;D

but seriously what is involved in replacing the dipstick tube are they simply pressed into to block and how hard is it to remove the old TUBE.

Dean very easy job, use something round that fits snug in the dip stick tube so it won't crush the tube then use vise grips or multi grips and grab it a couple of inches down so not to damage the top section  twist back and forth while pulling up it will come out ......FC427......
