hi all not overly mechanically minded just purchased 1956 fe sedan have never drove one before . the car arrives by transport tomorrow when i test drove it i noticed the  brakes were not overly good . having said that there was a full pedal did the fe come out with power booster i dont think my car has one if they did is it expensive to have one fitted and will it make much differance thanks in advance glen.

No power booster - although one was available as an accessory. Very rare to find a genuine working Nasco one.
The booster wont make the brakes any better, just easier to push.
I would try checking all the wheel cylinders first to make sure they are not gummed up.

Hey Glen.
The brakes are adequate if you drive the car with a bit more awareness.
Be conscious that you are driving a car that is over 50 years old and won't perform like your modern daily driver.
Leave a bit more room to the car in front, watch ahead for the need to brake and if in doubt, cover the brakes.
As Ken says, be sure the brakes are in tip top condition and after awhile you will get used to the feel.
