Title: Timing or Dizzy? Post by: Benno on March 20, 2008, 05:58:43 PM I have recently given my FC some new plugs, leads, battery, carby, oil etc.
After replacing all of this gear, I turn the engine over and not much happens. It wants to but all I hear are the 'ticks' of the plugs firing and bursts of air coming from the exhaust. I've gone over the dizzy just to make sure all was in order and began turning engine again but all I got was a loud bang from the engine with the smell a party popper gives. I have then gone back and reset the timing to the ball on the mark, the dizzy is just past firing piston 1 and again, the ticks and farts. To prevent a loud bang again (it gave me a headache) I've left it for the time being because I am at the lower end of mechanically minded folk.. Any answers? Cheers, Benno. Or when you changed the leads, you have put them back wrong, either in the wrong order or not starting number one lead at number one firing position.

hope it all comes good. Title: Re: Timing or Dizzy? Post by: Benno on March 21, 2008, 09:22:28 PM Thanks for the info. Now, how do i get it to not be 180deg out?
I've never done this sort of thing before. Cheers guys. Title: Re: Timing or Dizzy? Post by: spanner on March 21, 2008, 10:45:21 PM Pull out the front sparkplug. Turn engine over by hand until you feel air (compression)coming out of cylinder. This will mean that No1 piston is coming onto the firing stroke. Look at timing mark and when it is lined up, No1 will be on TDC.
Take the cap off the dissy and the rotor button should be facing in line with the lead going to No1 cylinder. If it is 180degs out, undo the retaining bolt of the dissy and lift it out far enough to turn the centre shaft to the correct position. If you haven't taken the dissy out, check that you have the leads in the correct firing order. Also check the way the dissy rotates and make sure you have the firing order going the correct way.
