Title: Help required, Please let me know what looks better. Post by: retro on February 10, 2008, 09:09:54 AM Hi guys, i know this is not fe/fc, but i respect the view of anyone, as i cant make up my mind.
Trying to remove the bland ek look on rosie, and wondered which way to put on the mock flash kit. photos are as follows.. ek plain jane... (http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s211/retro1980/PA100008.jpg) flash on top of main strips... (http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s211/retro1980/P2100001.jpg) (http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s211/retro1980/P2100002.jpg) flash on bottom of main strips... Post by: smithy on February 10, 2008, 09:55:54 AM HMMMMMMM ???
just looking at the photos the flash above looks very much 57 chevish just a shrunken version, which i dont mind :) though the flash below does seem to break up the wide arse look of the rear quarter nicely and does make the car appear lower in the rear, this may just be the photo? i think rosie might like to look a bit narrower around her backside ;) 'does my arse look big in this flash ?' ;D ;D :D ;D ;D ;D :D :D ;D :D :D :D :-X you know that is always a dangerous question to answer ! ;) :-X :-X :-X a straight profile shot would give the best idea, but i am drifting to flash below. Title: Re: Help required, Please let me know what looks better. Post by: JB on February 10, 2008, 10:49:41 AM I agree, the flash below is the way to go... Looks a little Hillmanish with the flash on top.
Title: Re: Help required, Please let me know what looks better. Post by: Spinner on February 10, 2008, 03:13:20 PM Flash on top looks Chrysler Royal to me.
Flash on bottom gives a more balanced look. It allows the fin to stand proud whilst complementing the flat shape of the wheel arch. The flash on the bottom also appears to line up with teh centre of the brake light arc (or slightly above). It gives a Pontiac Strato Chief look to the car. Cheers Brett Title: Re: Help required, Please let me know what looks better. Post by: customFC on February 10, 2008, 08:47:36 PM I like the flash above as it mirrors the bustle in the quarter that starts in the back door.
Be sure to have it parrallel to the main stripe or it will look odd either way. Regards Alex Title: Re: Help required, Please let me know what looks better. Post by: FC427 on February 10, 2008, 09:05:42 PM I think if you were standing next to the car looking down it would in my opinion look better on the top .........FC427........

Post by: oldholden on February 10, 2008, 10:03:19 PM Hey cop that FB looks fat! What motor will it be running? For what it's worth I agree with you. The flash looks better above the trim.

Post by: retro on February 10, 2008, 10:08:47 PM thanks guys, looks like a few good nights in the garage with some led zepplin and acdc thinking music, a cordless drill, a measuring tape and some beer, and ill be working at this project.
Its funny how i asked this same question on the fb/ek forum, and got the majority saying bottom is the way to go. Been thinking now, may bottom will hide the cutting of the door strip for the curve section to join. Might even remove the front gaurd diamonds and special badge and insert the diamonds or fb stars at the rear. lets see how i go, and how motivated work leaves me this week. Ps alex, that chap mark in homewares, hes a nice guy, give him a payrise as he owned an fb. ;) ;). Title: Re: Help required, Please let me know what looks better. Quote- "may bottom will hide the cutting of the door strip for the curve section to join." Please enlighten us as to where these strips resided when in original location. Mark? - not my store. Hey cop Nice car. Love the 57 gunsights!! Will be a schmick car when done. Regards Alex Title: Re: Help required, Please let me know what looks better. Post by: retro on February 10, 2008, 11:12:49 PM alex, the strips im using to replicate a flash kit are the top front door and rear gaurd stirps that came off an fb from factory, the rear door on the ek will need to be slotted so that the arch section fits in tight and looks the part.
I was thinking either spray her white inside of infill with hr premier rear window bottom moulds, i think paint may be the easiest and quickest method for me. Title: Re: Help required, Please let me know what looks better. Post by: Mal W on February 12, 2008, 02:32:57 PM Hey Tom,
Motor is supercharged V6 & auto & 9inch rear & 4 wheel discs. For anyone thats interested theres a full coverage on the rebuild on the FB/EK forum under Progress . Love the rims too, the whole thing will look outstanding. Tom Title: Re: Help required, Please let me know what looks better. Post by: retro on February 12, 2008, 03:52:08 PM nice ride malcom, i saw your flash a while ago, and thats what made me think of it more and more. I was going to cut a hr seal panel to do the chorme insert also, but i dont mind what i have done either. This way on my wedding day the ek will not be able to upstage the fb (remembering also i want to sell the ek after the big day also).
pics are as follows, and thanks everyone for input and ideas. Post by: fcstationsedan on February 13, 2008, 02:48:57 PM I like the flash above as it mirrors the bustle in the quarter that starts in the back door. My thoughts exactly. To me the top is more in keeping with the lines of the EK and is also a bit like 57 Chev and there sure is nothing wrong with that!Be sure to have it parrallel to the main stripe or it will look odd either way. |
