Hi John,
Assuming you have the spring off & didn't lose any fingers - there is a hinge pin that runs through at the pivot end that is held in by a triangular punch out tab in the main metal panel at the top. You just need to pry the tab away from the head of the hinge pin & it slides out.
Hope I've explained clear enough.
cheers,
Leigh

John,
The Shop Manual details...
Rear Compartment Lid Hinge and Spring
Removal
1. Pencil mark location of hinge strap on the lid inner panel to facilitate installation operation.
(ie Before you undo the boot lid bolts, pencil mark location of hinge strap on lid)
2. Remove the hinge spring by levering between the spring and mounting bracket with a screwdriver.
NOTE: To prevent an accident, place a cloth covering over the spring when prising it off.
(ie assuming spring is not broken, be bloody carefull, use/cover with heavy cloth, and long/big screwdriver)
3. Remove the hinge to lid attaching bolts, prise back the pivot pin retaining tab, and remove pin and hinge bracket.
Installation
4. Remove spring locating pin, replace with modern adjustable unit.
(see some bloke in NSW (forum member Maco) for details)
5. Operations are reverse of removal, except Special Tool is required to replace spring.
(see 4 above, as Special Tool is hard to make, and you still loose lot of skin)

Why do you ask!

Cheers, Geoff_K

Leigh & Geoff_K

Thanks for your input. I will have a go at it on the weekend, looks like the linkage has knuckled over and the link appears to be badly worn, also will fit an adjustable pin as well after I repair the linkage.

Cheers
John ;)

John,
I have replaced a boot spring post recently with the newly made screw up type post available through the Vic. club I believe. It works well, and is easy to tension. It was not easy to remove the old post. I had to make a brass bush because the new post is a much smaller diameter than the original (late 59 FC)
If you need more info let me know.

All,
I remove the Boot lid, repaired the linkage, fitted a new adjustable shaft and nut no problems.

In the manual it states to adjust the boot lid height by adding some packers between the lid & hinge, does any know the outside dimensions of the packer, I guess they are square about 38 to 50 mm. I can manufacture some to the thickness I require.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers
John ;)

Just make the packer the width of the boot hinge so it can't be seen when fitted up but so that it covers the area of the hinge. Ideally it should taper towards the centre of the hinge because you only need to pack up either the inner or outer bolt on the hinge.
