Title: Chrome Headlight Surrounds Post by: Paul In Ireland on December 19, 2007, 06:24:16 AM It seems nearly all the pics I see of peoples cars, they have the surrounds chromed. Now, on my ute it came painted and I sort of like it that way. Chrome has its appeal and if I do eventually change it, it will not look out of place.
How many or what models came with the chrome surrounds? Was it a nasco option or did people get it done themselves? Did you get the car painted and then changed to chrome? Did you get the car with chrome and painted when you did the resto? Preferences? Title: Re: Chrome Headlight Surrounds Post by: mcl1959 on December 19, 2007, 02:37:54 PM Paul All FC utes and vans had painted headlamp rims and tail lamp rims. The very early FC utes and vans also had painted grilles, but customer reaction was so unfavourable that GMH quickly changed.
As a side note, all FE's had chrome head and tail lamp rims. Finally just to reignite the tired old debate over which is better ::), this clearly shows how cheap and nasty the FC was compared to the magnificent FE ;D ;D ;D ;D He he he he Ken Title: Re: Chrome Headlight Surrounds Post by: FantaC on December 19, 2007, 02:47:50 PM I was thinking about thee unpainted headlight trim and moulding them on permently and fitting the headlight from behind . Has it been done before ?
Title: Re: Chrome Headlight Surrounds Post by: Ed on December 19, 2007, 05:00:56 PM almost like frenching them?
Would smooth it out, I reckon the original headlight surrounds look a little "heavy". Cheers Ed Title: Re: Chrome Headlight Surrounds Post by: customFC on December 19, 2007, 11:49:35 PM Hey FantaC
You can't weld them due to them being diecast. If you mould them in, I think they would crack with heat and flex. Hey Ed. Not heavy enough, could do with an extra pair of headlights. ;D Regards Alex Title: Re: Chrome Headlight Surrounds Post by: FantaC on December 19, 2007, 11:57:19 PM maybe make a mould and make fyber glass one`s
Title: Re: Chrome Headlight Surrounds Post by: FantaC on December 20, 2007, 12:00:28 AM must admit im not a fan of custom twin headlights
but love how you have done them customFC 8) Title: Re: Chrome Headlight Surrounds Post by: Ed on December 20, 2007, 01:50:11 PM You could easily make a fibreglass mould FantaC.. you'd need to retain the headlight off the metal part of the guard though or it would crack out.
i'm sure you could make it out of metal tho! I have ideas about quad lights Alex, but not on my current ride, I'd do them a little differently to how it's been done before though. Cheers Ed |
