Sounds interesting.  In a grey motor is it recommended to replace the fibre timing gear for reliability purposes if the exact mileage the motor has traveled is unknown?  Do you use a fibre gear or are the steel ones, as as in the above, post OK to use? Are they noisy.  Years ago I replaced the fibre gear as a precautionary measure in a blue 2850 motor and noticed no increase in noise.

from personal experieneS, getting stuck on the freeway twice within a few weeks with striped fibre timing gears i wouldnt ever put a motor together with a fibre gear, the towing fees arent worth it, i cant hear any difference between metal and fibre unless they are straight cut.
