Title: Hello from Ireland Post by: Paul In Ireland on September 29, 2007, 07:19:33 AM Been reading some of the posts for the past couple of weeks and getting to know what you all talk about. Time for me to start posting as I head to London on Sunday to collect this:

I have a bloke coming with me and we will be driving it back to Ireland across England and Wales, catching the Ferry and then drive halfway across Ireland back home. Should be a bit of an adventure and I will be taking a bag with a couple of tools and some sticky tape to make sure I get home. I will fill you in more on how it goes and also link to some more pics later on. NB - I am an expat living in Ireland 15 years and hail from around Wagga/Yarrawonga/Sydney. No rust in it at all and he wax oiled it when he bought it over. So it should stay in good shape for a long time to come but I do have a garage for storing it in.

Have you come across any other old Holdens over there? if so would like to see pics. Your story rings a bell, there is a bloke on this forum that goes by the name of Fast Eddie, who decided to drive a ute that he found back from Queensland to NSW, but don't go searching for the thread until you get home. I emailed the guy and said just in case it didn't work out let me know as I was interested. The guy that is selling did a few thousand miles around Oz before bringing it over here and he has kept it very well.

Great to see some added International flavour to the forum. It will be interesting to hear more about your FC ute as you explore your new purchase, as well as the exploring you will do in her. It was not what you would call cheap but what does a fully restored to original, rust free, FC Ute fetch back home?
I had quotes for shipping utes over here before and they all ran to about $6,000 odd. Given what I paid for this one, would I have got the same condition one there for less than $6,000? I figured I wouldn't so I bought it for a bit less than the last asking price along with all the spares he had which he was going to sell separately. Meanwhile, I head off in about 12 hours to go and bring it home. And you are right about it going to an expat - are Poms even allowed to own Holdens or are they only allowed to play with them for a while? Title: Made it back, no problems... Post by: Paul In Ireland on October 02, 2007, 06:20:13 AM Drove 400 miles in 22 hours including 6 hours on a ferry and 5 pub stops, didn't need to add any oil or water during the trip, the old ute was basically unstoppable until the handbrake cable came loose 20 mils from home. Will fix that tomorrow and post up a couple of pics for those interested.

My parents live in Yarrawonga-Mulwala and my brother is just a bit south of there - poor bloody farmer that he is.
