Title: FX Custom - Gemini
Post by: customFC on September 24, 2007, 06:21:04 PM
Bob Jamieson posted this pic in another thread, showing an old custom clip from an FX Holden in the background.

He asks the question regarding the history of the car.
The car is a 1951 FX Holden that was modified in the late 60's by Lionel Pitts.
It had a bit of success on the show circuit in the late 60's, early 70's.
The contrast roof had cobweb paint.
Some research turned up this feature in Custom Rodder #14, Mar-May 72, when the car had a new owner.

Here is a pic from a Aug '69 Aust Hot Rodding Review as part of a feature on the Brisbane show.

A colour pic from Graffiti's book Hot Rod Pioneers. (If folks don't have this book yet, it's a must buy for Aussie Hot Rod and Custom history. The earlier book Hot Rod Heritage has another B&W pic as the 1 above.)

Here is an article from Aust Hot Rodding Review, Jan '71. Also after Lionel had sold it to it's new owner.

Now how about them pics of what's left of the complete car? - Please!!

Hello Alex, thank you very much for all the info you have found on my poor old girl.
I have been looking for the CR#14 and hope to get some replies soon.
I will be taking some pics on the weekend which i shall post after Monday, but please dont expect too much. It is redeemable but is in a pretty sorry state. Much of the car is original as per the article,
but things such as wheels and seats have been removed. I have high hopes though!
A closer scrutiny of the project will take place to see if i can handle such a task, i will let everyone
know soon.
Cheers,Bob Jamo

Hey Bob.
Thanks for the reply.
Looking forward to those pics regardless of the cars current state.
Is the car in FNQ or some place else?
Things like the seats and wheels should not be too hard to replace, Sunbeam Alpine seats would not be easy to track down.
Pics....Pics....Pics....all angles and features please.
It's not every day you come across a survivor such as this.
There are 2 or 3 customs that I would dearly love to uncover lurking in a garage some day.
Regards
Alex

Wow, I remember this car when my dad use to take me to the car shows in the 70's , it stood out in my my mind with the depth of colour in the paint. (If it is the one I remember, how many purple show fj's were there  ;D)
thanks for the pics and article
Grant
