Title: Holley fuel regulators
Post by: Dave_EH on September 02, 2007, 01:36:22 PM
Has anyone used Holley fuel regulators?

I require a fuel regulator to drop my pressure down to about 2.5 - 3 psi down to suit SU carbs on a red six with commodore style mechanical fuel pump.

A mate is also doing the same and we bought identical reg set ups:
Holley 1-4psi regualtor
speco fuel pressure gauge and necessary fittings.

He tried one reg first and couldnt get the psi below 8, with the psi barely changing between the two extremes of the settings.

He then tried the other gauge with no change, and then the other regulator with no change.

From what I can see these Holley regs are of poor build quality to beging with.  One had a thick fibre gasket on the adjusting diaphram and the other didnt.  One leaked badly and the diaphram housing had to be filed flat to fix it.

Either way, we can't make either of them work.

Has anyone else had any problems?

Cheers
Dave

I run a Holley reg on a Holley blue pump on my 355 with no problems. Was easy to set up and I believe the setting to be accurate at 6 PSI.This regulator is of course a different part no. to yours but the instructions give a similar description to setting up.One thing it does say is to not wind the screw all the way in as this may damage the regulator and no adjustment will occur once this has happened (will be flat out).Cheers,Jamie.

Thanks guys.

The only thing i can think is that both pumps were packaged in the wrong box.  Still, why would one have a thick fibre gasket and not the other?

I think it has been set up right:

  • Line from fuel pump into INLET on regulator
  • gauge into one of the outlets
  • Line from other outlet goes to carbs (to the splitter block)

How can a 1-4psi reg allow 8 psi pressure?

Hopefully we've just made a mistake!

Cheers
