One of those ones that you regret the minute it drives out the drive-way. Apparently it went to Yamba Nthrn NSW where it was painted upholstery redone & the wiring tidied up. Would love to know where she is now & how she'e going. If anyone knows please PM me.

Yes I think that this is my old car. I had a freind come around last weekend in his FC with a mate of his in his FJ. We were talking about what I intended to do with one of the shells I have in stock. Tony in the FJ said he had seen a red & white sedan in the trading post recently as that was the colour scheme I am thinking. When they left I thought I would check out the red & white car to get an idea how mine would look when done. Lo & behold what was the first FC that should appear on the page but the one you have linked to. I called Jodie over & as I said "look it's my old car" I started to tear up :'(. She must of thought I was crazy :o. It must have tugged on a heart string though cause she let me put down a deposit on it on Sunday night. A minute after I finished talking with the owner another person rang him about it so it must be fate. I am fairly confident that this could be my old car as it has a lot of the features that my old car had. The wheels on the front of this one are 7" & I had 6", but that is not hard for someone to change. The front bumper being FE not FC centre is another similarity. When I sold the car originaly the next owner rewired & re-upholstered it which have ben done as well as a recent paint job & engine....motor re-build. The guy in Albury said it was purchased in Warwick QLD which is only 3 hours away from Lismore NSW which is where I was living at the time I sold it. The guy that bought it off me lived in Yamba NSW & that is only a couple of hours further away from Warwick than Lismore, so it didn't go too far until its trip down south (if it is the same car) & even if it isn't it will be as close as possible to it for me. I have been comparing the photo's and you will notice that the tyres are the same, the wibroc mirror on the drivers side is the same, the venetians have been removed and Mudflaps have been added. For about three years now i have been looking for my grandfathers HT Premier Sedan in Monza Blue with a White Roof. Have not managed to find one yet for sale, (Found on one the Adelaide Bay to Birdwood this year but not on the market) but the hunt continues and hearing stories like this re sparks a glimmer of hope. The FC is definately my old one, a repair on the rear parcel tray plus a different bolt in the front bumper confirmed it. So now I feel like a 21 year old (but Jodie won't let me have one ;D). You are obviously very happy now that you have your old car back. A rebuild for me got out of hand quite few years ago when the engine died. The engine bay was a bit messy as the battery had overcharged leaking acid. I decided to repaint the engine bay. As I got around the front end components I began removing them too, to give them a tidy up. 18 months later it was finished, it had been down to the bare shell and rebuilt. Just fix the starter motor and drive it ;D ;D You will enjoy it more! I did a compression test on the car this morning & these are the results: 1= 90 2= 70 3= 80 4= 70 5= 90 6= 80 These are in lbs, what are good readings ie. what should it have? The motor is blowing a little smoke on start-up & on trailing throttle when going down hills ect. I have been told it sounds like valve stem seals & i don't want to just do them only to have to pull it apart in a months time cause we have opened another can of worms. Thanks, Dean. According to the manual. Normal compression pressure at cranking speed, in an engine which has been fully broken in, is 115 lbs./sq. in. or better. All the cylinders should read alike to within 10 lbs./sq. in. for satisfactory engine performance. This is word for word from the manual, while I am not an expert by any means, mine reads 115 across the board so I take it the 115 lbs. is correct. I'm sure others with more experience can fill you in about putting a bit of oil in each cylinder and testing again, if the compression goes up, it is your rings, if not it's your valves. All my cylinders were between 125 and 130psi. The car is supposed to have done 50,000 miles but I have no knowledge if any work has been done to the motor. The roughness and poor power was loose inlet manifold, no centrifugal advance on the distributor and a new faulty spark plug.

To confirm whether it is rings or not with a compression test drop a couple of squirts of oil in each cylinder as you check them and any significant increase in pressure will highlight that the rings are worn. Sorry Dean, I missed this post when it was posted, The J series blocks were sought after when I was racing speedway, being the last of the grey motors the cores were more central, were a younger block and therefore probably didn't have as much internal corrosion. They also had the larger welsch plugs in the block to enable the water jackets to be given a real good clean out. From memory the conrods in them were better than the earlier ones and the oil pump was better too. We also used to shim the oil pressure relief spring to get better oil pressure. They were regularly bored to 3.250" and we fitted 12:1 pistons. The heads were also shaved 0.125" The mains bearing saddles were ground down to enable a 1 1/8th square block of steel to be fitted as main bearing saddle to help hold the crank together. The flywheels were lightened, and had a habit of working loose as they were only held on with four bolts. We used to ask a lot from the motors and they broke, regularly :-X So in answer to your question, were the "J" block better than the "B" blocks, in my opinion yes, if you are building a performance Grey. Otherwise there wouldn't be much in it. I would be very careful in trying to bore a "J" block to 3.250 now. Many more years have passed and there would undoubtedly be much more internal corrosion present. It's a great looker and those mags really set it off. I had an FE as my second car, but sadly it was hit by a truck and is now in FE/FC heaven, but at least I have one that I am able to rebuild and get back on the road at some point.

Yep, no mags or wipers. I wanted to go 14" wheels with the wide whites & I had the wheels in stock. The wipers need some new bushes so I have to sort that out. No weber on the 149.....yet ;). Alex I got the trim rings from Armadale auto parts in WA. I tried a few places over this side & was told it would be at least a 2 week wait. Armadale had them on the shelf & 3 days later they were here. Next I might get a set of 14's reversed to give them a little bit of dish. Cheers & thanks, Dean.
