There is a fc panel van overlander being built in Perth at the moment........... I was told about this but refused to believe it, till the photos arrived.

It is a landcruiser chassis with full toyota driveline fited with the van body.......

if someone can post the photos i will e mail them

Funny you should mention this Van, we were just talking about it at the monthly club meeting "HELD TONIGHT" and I think a lot of us would like to see the photo's.  :'(

i'd always imagined an old land rover chassis with 186 conversion a good conversion.

great to see somebody doing it.

The photos should be on there way. i have not seen the vehicle myself, my brother took them.

The body is apparently very straight, withe only the firewall being modified.

The owner is paying for a proffessional to do all the work, and it will be a road licenced vehicle.

 My brother is a mechanic by trade and said the work quality is extremely high.

(These wheels are only temporary).

Could have been worse, could have been an FE Van! ;D

Personally I think it's great, a change of style for once.
Better than rotting away in a paddock somewhere or sitting hidden in someone's garage.

Hi guys,
here's another great overlander. ;D I saw this at a car show in Darwin about 18 months ago and it took all of 30 minutes to sell for about $500.00. Pity there was only a little bit of work still to be to be done :o

Aparently the van was a total wreck, he tried to sell it for 500 dollars, and no one would touch it.

So he had a bright idea???

Anyone seen the Darwin Ute since that photo was taken.
Looks like Hilux running gear with  16" spilt rim wheels with 7.00 tyres.

I reckon there is enough old vans around to allow at least a couple of them to end up "Overlanders" cant be any worse than giving one a top chop.
Dont get me wrong . I have nothing against top chops... just drawing a comparison and saying that there is room in this world for Fe/fc vans on 4X4 chassis and Fe/Fc van bodies that have been cut , chopped, tubbed or whatever.
I love em all.

Each to there own, but to me it looks like a Matchbox car or some thing JUST WRONG FC427

The overlander look is way cool I reckon.  I've got many friends with 4x4's and I'd love to get away in an FC 4x4 with them.

What a thing to do to such a rare vehicle......not exactly thousands of these just lying around these days.Probably should have chopped it as well!  ???

I wander if its still running the old ........original... as it came from the factory... dead stock.. ....Grey motor with 3 speed column change ??
or perhaps he has butchered it by fitting a V6 or maybe a V8... what a crime that would be  :P :P :P

A FC van is rare but a FE van is rarer and a FC overlander van is rarer again.

 Anyway my uncle has a van slightly raised with 14" wheels, he wreckons its the ultimate machine for ripping around the bush, when it was registered he used to shortcut through paddocks and stuff at a good pace

Personally, I think it's great but let's not start a war of opinions and have someone else leave for a difference of opinion or mis-understanding.

Bottom line is someone saved this from a Simsmetal bin, the restorer's will always call a modified a waste and the modifiers always want to save a car from being restored. For everyone worried about it being a waste, it can always be dropped onto a different chassis that's closer to terra firma or even restored if someone is keen enough.

In the mean time, I say whack on a set of monster tyres and paint it with a gaudy paint scheme!  ;D

Well,let's not turn this into another shitfight.I believe the forum is designed to be a medium for all members and guests to give there OWN opinions on different topics and offer usefull information where it can be offered.I only ever give my opinions as does everyone else and I expect that is how people will interpret them....I guess some people don't see it that way.There is a difference between having an opinion on something or just believing that everyone elses opinions are wrong.Others ,obviously just enjoy starting arguments with no constructive criticism...Maybe I should start every post with "IMHO" or "I wouldn't have done that",just to stop the confusion.Cheers,Jamie. ???

i reckon the overlander is great, and needs a set of rubber flares and a shovel, jerry can and hi lift jack on the tailgate.  I hope its running a V8 too.

  I have just come across this thread and as some people have told me my fe windowless p/van needs to much work. This thread has inspired me to go  with my origanal plan of putting it on my datsun 720 4x4 chassis which has commo v6 & commo 5 speed manual gearbox.

Any progress known on these vans or are they still gathering dust  ???

the fc ute from darwin is definately sitting on a landrover chasis  and suspension   not hi-lux  mickrat tassy
