Title: heaters again..
Post by: Ed on October 11, 2002, 11:50:30 PM
after looking thru the accessories section of the club site.

can somebody verfiy if this is correct?

there are 2 heater types (for FE/FC).  1. beehive, or 2. type with door flaps.
branded either Smiths or Nasco. (identical anyway)

thx
Ed

Ed,
You are correct with what you said. But you will also find many other aftermarket units around that will do the job.

Graham

Ed, here is the heater story.
Starting with original equipment

1956 FE   Bosch heater (doors)
1957 FE   Nasco Autoheat (doors)
FC            Nasco Warmaride (doors)
FC            Nasco Airconditioner (controls under g/box)

Nasco general purpose heater for any make of car.

Nasco beehive type heater

Heaters made for FE & FC by other companies (not offered by GMH as optional equipment.

Smiths with doors
Smiths beehive style
Preslite Autoheat with doors
Plus others.

Note that some dealers fitted non-genuine heaters to cars from new for a number of reasons
1. A Nasco one was not available
2. The non-genuine heater was cheaper
3. The customer asked them to

Hope this clears it up.

Ken

I know this is an old thread but I'd love some pictures of these models.

Where can I find that info?

There's an area of the website called "Tech Info ($2)" that has a lot of information about original accessories. Club Members can also access the "Accessory of the Week" board, which has several hundred original accessories, many with photos, prices and some with fitting instructions.

Hope that helps,
RET

I thought it might be warm in Orange, then I saw an advert for another car-related show at Orange the week before the nats...
the ad said "show will be cancelled if it rains or snows"  :o

We'll be treating Orange the same way we treated Jindabyne and how we treat Canberra. Be prepared for anything.

Colin.

You'd reckon a bloke of your age would know that this goal is completely unachievable.  :P

I bought a 12 volt electric blanket that plugs into the cigarette lighter a couple years ago. That keeps me toasty warm.

Keith, given that snow is apparently a possibility, I'm installing twin heaters...

(if I can find 2 identical blankets  ;D)

Kathi,

I like the car to be cold when I drive, so the air-con remains on pretty much all year round, If she complains about the cold then she has to put a blanket on- simple

The heater is there to demist the windscreen :P
