Post by: coolaride on June 09, 2007, 10:24:19 PM
hey there

picked up my repro rubber floor mats last weekend .
i`m just wondering if standard mats were painted or was it just special models ?

has any one painted them before ?

i`m thinking of flicking some paint onto them.. it might
look ok ? let me know what you think..

also could some one please post a couple of pics so i know what the paint looks like ?

thanks

coolaride . :)

Hey Rich
Mats for your stadard original wagon would have been straight boring black ;D ;D The paint splattering idea whilst it sounds alright would i think be close on impossible to make look as per factory. Your current level of details is amazing and to ruin that with a spotty mat would be a tradgedy.
Just my 20 cents
Cheers
Brett

I sent it to my son's pre school and 20 x three year olds flicked red paint on it.  ;)

Brett,

Sorry if you didn't find my response amusing.

I'm more than happy to share the information regarding my project.

I supplied a sample of an original mat to my spray painter who then spent some time experimenting with different gun set ups, pressures, colours and paint viscosity to get it right. I don't have the specifics of what combination actually worked.

He practiced on several pieces of rubber prior to attempting the mats, as unlike painting a panel, you only get one go at it.

His details are:

Glenn Alderson
Hughes & Gibson Smash Repairs
25 Forrester Rd St Marys 2760
(02) 9623 7936

The cost is in the vicinity of $250/mat.

Regards

Ed
